UH,Been a long time since I was in that age catagory.Harry Potter books are an obvious choice. When I was around that age I would go to a book store and open a number of books,if the style of writing caught my attention and kept it,I brought it home with me.Rarely had any regrets.
The site is slow on weekends usually, but hang in there, someone will be around soon to make suggestions.

Harry Potter is a good one for any age. And, although I haven't myself read it, I heard that Eragon was good. I also have been getting a lot of recommendations for Dragon Lance lately. The Dark Tower is a seven volume Post Apacolyptic Sci-Fi Western Epic Fantasy series written by Stephen King. I also hear that his other fantasy works, The Eyes of the Dragon, Black House and The Talisman, where all really good. My sister has read The Sword of Truth and said that they were good, despite being too slow at times. I've also had recommendations for The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife.

It totally depends on the person who is doing the reading,
what do they like to read, are they any good at it.
is this a birthday present?
I like Elizabeth Scarborough's book's is my favorite is "song of sorcery."

Ha ha, I'm going to steal the lime light while mangus is in class.
how about the wizard if oz,
Alice in wonderland,
king Arthur and his knight's,
Lancelot and Guenevere,
the three musketeers,
the count of Monte cristo,
2000 leagues under the sea,
poor pim was keep in the basement by her wicked step mother...
(pim you don't have a step mother)
where she could do nothing but read the books that were down there.
( I have been in your basement, it's the nicest basement ever, it's got a beautiful fire place, comfy chairs with snuggle blankets and huge windows out back.)
and she was not ever aloud to go outside.
(that is because you are grounded for dying your hair purple.)

There is a trilogy about Merlin and King Arthur by Mary Stewart:
The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills, and The Last Enchantment. Haven't read them for years, but do recall loving them.
One option is visiting your local library. Many have YA (young adult) sections. It's a great (and inexpensive) way to discover new authors.
