I want to write up several short stories and submt them to various e-zines. Trouble is, I'm having a lot of trouble coming up with short story ideas. Could people please list off any ideas for fantasy short stories than they can think of? I'll get the ball rolling: -A horse with a gift for intellect and speech is joined with a man who is an idiot and has a serious speech impediment. They are sent on a mission to return the magic ring of their kingdom to an immortal sorceress to have its powers refreshed. -Forces of good are rising up to destroy the corruption of the land. The land's evil dark lord sends his wicked young son on an adventure to battle this new spiritualist/humanitarian and restore chaos to the world. -A merman falls in love with a human female. Has she put a spell on him, or is it true love? But how can he love a woman without scales, with legs and feet? A wizard puts it to him strait -- abandon his fin and be human and marry his human love, or remain a lonely merman forever. He thinks about it and responds, "There's more fish in the sea!" Oh, groan. Ok, all I have is commical antidotes, as you can see. Non-comic ideas would be appreciated!
Uh-Oh. 1) People might gripe about you asking for their ideas. You're only the twenty-seventh person to do it. 2) Have you ever watched 'The Little Mermaid'?
Asking for their ideas. I certianly wouldn't ask for ones that'd wish to use themselves. I've given out planty of ideas myself on this site. I think it's fine.
You still haven't adressed the 'Little Mermaid' issue. And while you may think it's fine, as do I personally, I was just giving you a heads up that you may be attacked by certain board members. It's funny you took offense to the one talking point where I was trying to help you but passed up the one where I was actively trying to offend you.
... ok. Yes, I have seen the Little Mermaid. But what does that have to do with anything?
Quote- A merman falls in love with a human female. Has she put a spell on him, or is it true love? But how can he love a woman without scales, with legs and feet? A wizard puts it to him strait -- abandon his fin and be human and marry his human love, or remain a lonely merman forever. He thinks about it and responds, "There's more fish in the sea!"-End Quote. . . . uhhhh . . . well, let's see . . . what does my Little Mermaid question have to do with anything . . . Oh, yeah, now I remember . . . Your story is the basic plotline for that movie.
Oh. No, it was the oppisite way around. She was the mermaid who fell in love with a human, as it is in the fairy tales. I turned it around. Mind, I would not write that into a story. It was merely just an off-handed idea. Nothing more.
And I was just pointing it out that it was basically 'The Little Mermaid'. Another thing I noticed, though, is that most of your ideas (Even if they are just examples)would make better novels then ten or twelve page short stories.
Love the first one... -A horse with a gift for intellect and speech is joined with a man who is an idiot and has a serious speech impediment. They are sent on a mission to return the magic ring of their kingdom to an immortal sorceress to have its powers refreshed. Sounds like the movie "Hot to Trot!" with Bobcat Goldwaith, but with a fantasy twist and a magic ring. I love the idea. Now if we can only bring back John Candy to reprise his role as the talking horse.
Thanks, Manji. I just threw them out there. lol. I've never seen that one.
Well, in the movie "Hot to Trot!" there is a very intelligent horse who talks, played by John Candy. The horse teams up with a would be jockey, played by Bobcat Goldwaith, who does have a speech impediment. Just thought it was interesting that you put that out there. Funny that the movie isn't familiar to you, because you hit the basic premise.
Yeah, I discover my ideas are all reasy used all the time. It's very frustrating.
