Writting from a historical perspective

For some reason, it just hit me the other day to start writting from a historical perspective. Narating the accounts transpired as seen from a third person. Though I am sure this technique is often used, I have always found myself trapped in the details (ie: detailing the weather conditions surrounding an event), this has often caused me to get frustrated and scrap a story which I was previously pleased with. I think it has more to do with a mental block that I imposed on myself. Being the huge history buff that I am and looking at how events are often described is helping me progress with my writting and I am gratefull. Just thought I would share this little slice of heaven from my corner of the universe. Though I think that writting from a historical perspective will force me to lose some emotion, compared to writting from the first person. Any thoughts would be appreciated. A very small portion are first and then only Choose Your Own Adventure books are in second. In third person there's limited, omniscient and a kind of go between hybrid of the two. You can convey plenty of emotion in third, so long as you can write well with it.
