Epic, or too Epic?
Epic, or too Epic?

Alright, this is something I've worried about for quite a while, ever since my saga gained some solid ground as a massive story. Since there was so much my co-writer and I wanted to do with each episode, we figured it'd take quite a while to finish them considering we were going to write them in novel format and such, mainly because its the only way of currently expressing our story. Believe me, if we had the resources and technology, it'd already be turning into a game or something like that. In any case, that fear of how long it will take is catching up with us. The story began about a year and a half ago. Most of that was deciding the storyline, characters; all the ground work. Now, after all this time, we have a total of TWO chapters written for ONE episode. Normally I'm a patient guy, and I usually don't rush my projects, but this is something I can't put into words, an epic I have this absolute need to get out in the open and show people my visions. I'm sure you all understand this feeling. So naturally I want this to get done, at the least, faster than it is going right now. The thing is, I don't think I'd be satisfied with it in any format other than a videogame. Thats the entertainment I grew up with, its the entertainment I study in my free time, and its the career I'm going to persue, and nothing is going to change that. So I guess the only solution is to try and go for what I've been shooting for all along, for the past eight years, being a game designer. One of the reasons why I need the game format is the fact that there are scenes in my mind that cannot be put into words. Well, they can, but I'm not a dedicated enough writer to find a way to do it. And besides, I've found my skills lie more in cinematography, since when I think of a scene to write, I don't think of what happens. I think of the camera angles of what happens. Okay, I'm ranting now, but still. Anyone else have this "rushing" problem? I fear this thing has become too much of a beast to tackle.
Posted By: Magus Dec 31, 2004 - 11:50 am | | I wouldn't say I have the exact same condition. If anything, I take a very leasurely pace to to my writing my epic idea. I've put off starting it until the end of this up-and-coming summer so I can develope my style writing short stories. I also use this to help make minor adjustments and plans on what I'm going to do. I figure that I have my whole life ahead of me. Taking some time out of it to help shape my craft, to improve upon it, won't hinder me at all, in fact, it will probably help me. Butmy problem lies with having multiple ideas. Everytime I have a good sounding idea I write it down, in some detail, on my computer and then copy it to a floppy. My problem is that I already have a bunch of ideas that I want to start on, especially newer ones. But I just hold myself off and work on developing myself as an author. I'm sure that, from what I've heard of it, you'll get your idea either novelized or made into a game before too long. And, if it does becomes a game, I can assure you that I'd be there to buy it, same if it's a book. Just do what you have to do and I'm sure everything will work out just fine.
