magic dice that were created at the same time the universe came to be. the dice pop up every now and then throughout the history of the universe whenever it need to recharge it's power, it chooses the two MC from our time and place and transfers them to the worlds where fragments of the items needed to recharge it are stored. they meet up with a ninja girl in the second world they visit and run into a healer princess in the fourth world. i think it'll be a very interesting story once it's complete. i'm already on the fourth world and the story ends after the seventh world. i'm a little worried about what to do after the story is actually completed. who should i send my story to and how can i prevent myself from getting riped off or waiting an eternity for a reply? you know what i mean

Wow, that story sounds interesting. I never heard of anybody using dice to travel to different worlds.

I'd say that first you need to be sure that you get something small published, like a short story. That will get your name out there, and then the publishers will have something to look at when you send in a large manuscript. If you have nothing published, they won't give your 'script much attention, but if you have, and they've looked at it and felt you did a decent job with it, then "thumbs up"... you will have a much better chance at success in getting published.
That was what a publisher told me when I asked. I met her at a convention, and it was when I hadn't really started looking at getting published myself, but I was interested in the industry (becoming an editor at a publishing company), so I asked about that job and that was something she mentioned.

how many pages is a short story. or should i say how many words. because i really like the story i'm working on now but it's anything but short. that would mean that i'd have to finish up this story then start on another story, a short one this time and get it published then send in my longer favorite story.

No, dleon, I haven't been published yet. Not in anything that matters, anyway; just some class publication in eighth grade and a poetry anthology where everyone gets in.

I don't remember where the line between Short story and Novella is drawn. But I think that it was somewhere around 15 pages, in size 12 Times New Roman font, is a novella. Sorry that I can't help any more then that.
