This isn't really about writing, but I thought I'd post this question here anyway, since some of my concerns parallel certain issues encountered by writers.

I enjoy creating artwork, and had an idea for a series of still lifes I may want to do in the future. I would like to arrange my old Star Wars figures into various displays and render them in pencil. If the effect works, I may frame some, and might be interested in selling some.

Here's the concern: Am I treading on copyright issues if I want to sell my artwork? I would NOT be copying any photos owned by Lucasfilm or Kenner/Hasbro. All arrangements would be my own design, based on figures produced by Kenner. If I title the drawings, I would steer clear of using copyrighted names in the titles.

However, the characters are owned by Lucasfilm and the figure likenesses are owned by Hasbro.

What do you think?

I don't know...

I don;t think it would, but I'd say it's a judgement call.

Just don't become to well known and you'll never have to find out.

I don't know either, but I suspect if the figures are recognizable as Star Wars figures that you'd be in trouble. Make them unrecognizable as Star Wars figures and you won't have the problem (?).

I think more and more that it's not illegal. But I still have no grounded idea. Tread carefully and ask around.
