A differently colored Honda Accord is STILL a Honda Accord. You said that they're "dark-skinned and violent." Taking away their worship of a spider goddess and having them live above the ground doesn't change that. You're taking what you like about the drow and just changing some things to attempt to make them YOURS. Wizards/TSR would probably fight you tooth and nail if you made them any more drow-like than you already have, so you just "lighten" their black skin to a dark brown/umber and say they're jes' Elves.
Then you're getting into D&D Style wood elves.
*Aldan chuckles and sounds like Beavis*
*gypsychic rolls her eyes and wishes Beavis had never been invented*
When you get to the specifics, my elves are quite different from those other types. It is the civilization, not just the look.
Cretin?!? I think I prefer guppy if that's my other choice.
Woo Hoooooooo!!!
If you insist. hehe
I think I may have made a big ol' mistake with last post.
*Aldan gives a huge wolfie grin*
Now that we have her permission....
Hey doesn't that count as a repeat post? Bmat, I think you should delete all but one of those.
I was just letting out all those guppy's that I had suppressed.
Yeah, you wouldn't want him to bust a seam, would you gup?
GUPPY!
Maybe I would at that, Aldan.
Yeah, thanks to the Final Fantasty games you run into "Elves Suck" everywhere in books these days... just and example.
I don't remember anything bad about elves in final fantasy. What am I forgetting?
The one stereotype I am keeping is the reverance for nature. The build everything around the life that is there. Any sort of city will be build on the desert, rock, or be floating on a lake. There is a tree though that one tribe lives in. It is massive to the point of being a mountain. Many of the elves build their houses in the cracks of the bark.
How small are your elves? I read a book once - can't remember which one - where the elves where barely topped three feet.
