266$ in five days... Pretty good huh? [Age deleted. Bmat]

There are eight of us kids in my family, and since my Dad has never held with giving an allowence us kids earn our own money.

We have a bear bait bussiness. Yup, we sell bear bait to bear hunters.
We drive 2 hours to the Country Kitchen bakery in our state and buy thier out of date donuts. Then we open them into 55 gallon barrels and sell the full barrels for 25$ each! Of course, all of that is not profit. We only get 15$ per barrel, the rest goes to the "Donut Fund" to buy the next load... We actually buy them by the horse-trailer load.
The big kids can do two barrels an hour, I am a big kid.
So, I have done 14 barrels in the last five days!
that makes 210 dollers.

And now the 56$.
You see, Dad owns the only laundromat in our town, and we boys are his technicians. We get 50$ dollers per machine that we fix... If we fix it sooner than three days after it broke. My brother and I just fixed 2 dryers. On one of them had a broken gear.
The other would not go because the tin lint shield right inside the drum got caught on a nail or somthing that some jerk had in his pocket when he threw his clothes in the dryer. The lint shield was all torn up from trying to go around and around, and a wire got cut in the process.

Oh, I found the other 6$ in the lint compartment.

So, that is probably more than you ever wanted to know about my week, but now you know anyway!!

The laundromat job especially is giving you skills that you will use either for future employment or when you do repairs in your own house. Very nice!

I live only a few minutes walking distance from my old Jr. High/Grade school. Apparently over the summer they hire people to help paint/clean and all that. They get paid $10.00 an hour and work full 40 hour weeks. Plus you're on your own for the most part... or also in a group... and the job is advertized so poorly that you're almost guaranteed to get the job if you know if it.

My brother did it last year for about four or five weeks. He cleaned up pretty well. I figure I'll take oer once he starts student teaching... I think it might be a bit awkward working there with him.

[Age reference removed. Bmat]

[The rule against age reference is serious. It is for your protection and also a legal matter. Bmat]

It really is a legal protection against pedophiles and stalkers. It is just too easy to find out where people live and who they are, so we're encouraged to not give out too much info about our personal lives on ANY website. Now the stuff about the laundromat and the Bear Huntin', well, as long as you don't state what state yer in, ah shore don' think that yer gonna... sorry. It was the bear hunting idea that got to my 'voice'... that you're going to get in trouble for it. The law is a protection in this case, not meant as an impediment. Oh, and by the way, have any of you thought about all the ways the term 'ped' is used? Pedophile, impediment, pedal, pedantic, etc., and they have vague ties to each other, too... boy, English can be weird...

In self defense we learn about pedophiles. A friend of mine had to watch a movie the other day that he claimed "Would have been me five to ten years ago".

And, Aldan, indeed. English is weird. Maybe that's why I love it so.

My dictionary says it's from the Greek "paid-" meaning child.

I think it would be fun to become a foreign exchange student, intimidating, but fun. Our school get's a lot of German and Polish exchange students.

Yep, it is the greek term for child, and in medicine they use it for pediatrics.

Cool. Learning the origions of words is really quite interesting. For example:

Subdolous meens sly, crafty or cunning. But take the word apart and you have sub dolous. Sub is latin for slightly and dolous for deceit. So it really meens slightly deceptive.
