It has crossed my mind before that most of the celebrities who appear to be stupid can't actually be as stupid as they seem. I mean, they managed to break into the business, which takes more than just good looks and luck (in most cases). I think there are plenty of celebs pretending to be dumb so they can be more popular, or at least more infamous. Fame is all about calling attention to yourself, I don't think it really matters how.

I think it kind of does matter how. Certain reputations will follow certain attention. An actor that passes themselves off as a stupid ditzy blond will be typecast when it comes to acting to strictly the stupid ditzy blond parts. What you see is what you get.

I don't think that one should say that everyone in any professional group are stupid. At least without concrete proof.

Well, not everyone. You're right. What I meant is that what I've seen with actors who are free to say what they want the general trend is for them to act in a manner that is less then intelligent. Not all the time, but just typically that's how I've seen it.

No offense meant to anybody who's an actor here. I lot of my friends are "actors" and in drama... most of them are very smart too.

I would never say that anyone should not express their opinion. My problem with celebrities is that they express their opinions most of the time with litte research behind their positions. They could never hold their own in a real debate. On top of that, most of them talk the talk but rarely walk the walk. Since the vast majority of celebrities are Democrats, when they speak, people associate their views and comments as a reflection of the Democratic party. When they speak in a fasion that is ill informed, they hurt the Democratic party. (shrugs)

I think Alec Baldwin is really quite smart and pretty well informed. I have read interviews that he is given and was impressed with what he had to say. The problem is when he gets in front of a camera he makes really stupid statements, like I'll move to Canada if Bush wins. What the hell does that have to do with any issue? Why not actually discuss the issues and lay out your case instead of making grandious statements that you will never follow up on? Ughhh That and I have not seen Baldwin actually seriosuly involved in a charity that he strongly believes in. It is hard to give creedance to him when he makes polarizing statements and does nothing to follow them up.

I mentioned Bono earlier because he is a celeb who has been actively involved in several causes, visits the areas he is interested in, has learned something about those areas, and has not tried to ram his beliefs down our throats. Clearly he has done something right since he has meet with President Bush and travelled with Former Secretary of Treasury Paul O'Niell to Africa to show him the grass roots work being done to care for AIDs patients and economic development. You can disagree with him but he puts his money where his mouth is. I can respect that.

I found a site that had every celebrity that claimed that they would move to Canada if Bush wins. The whole site was a giant pole to see who would go first, each vote counting as a dollar and whoever got enough for a plane ticket first would win. I wish I remember the name of the site.

I think there's a lot of comic geniuses out there, but comedy is looked down upon too badly by Hollywood. Like Jim Carrey -- his fellow actors keep him out of the Oscars every year! Did you SEE what he did in "Man on the Moon"?!! And they said it wasn't really acting, just mocking. Yet they are raving about that actor who played Ray Charles in that recent film "Ray". Good performance maybe, I haven't seen it, but why should they frown on one and praise the other? Hollywood is all about social politics, like the whole entertainment industry. They say art. If that were true, then where is it?
