Ok, what free stuff on the info super highway (as if anyone says that anymore) is good to donwload? I've downloaded a few good things for free off downloads.com but i wonder if anyone knows of any free software that's good to have. I've been researching free ebooks and the like, especially for anything on the dark ages.

Myself, I recommend the following: Adaware SE Personal, Antivir 9X, and Norton Anti-virus. All are great for free anti-bug programs and I think are all found on downloads.com

Lots of free things online - most via P2P, but here's some legal free software and books.

Freeware/Open Source Software

Firefox web browser - much safer than IE and with more features

AVG Anti-Virus - free virus scanner with regular udates

Irfanview - excellent free image viewer

Flashget - free download manager

Kerio (or perhaps ZoneAlarm) firewalls - no one should be online these days without a firewall protecting their PC

PINS - stores passwords in an encrypted format

Legal Free Books

Download Opera. It's the fastest internet server in the world, and it's free. It's also far more user friendly then anything else I've seen. I'm actually using it right now...

Thanks a lot! Guenbuerg is great! I've all ready downloaded about a dozen books on my laptop, everything from Greek History to English Folk Tales. Great stuff. Thanks!
