now, tell me if i'm wrong, but a neutron bomb would destroy a alien ship, right? now, wouldn't they need one heck of a shielding system because the neutron bomb has the power of a sun? i mean, i'm probably wrong. i know nothing about psychics. but if this shielding existed, wouldn't they be able to drive right through a sun?
What's the point you are trying to make?
Posted By: Bmat Jun 09, 2003 - 05:11 am | | Is it that a spacefaring alien race would protect itself by having the shielding, and so it would be so well shielded that we would find it impossible to destroy the ships?
Posted By: Ding_man Jun 09, 2003 - 06:43 am | | Why would we ever need to destroy aliens anyways is my question. Thats why I dont want aliens to come in contaact with us, but in my belief it will happen in the next couple years. Some guy who predicted 9/11 and The Gulf War etc. said a few years ago that we'd come in contact with aliens in 2004 or something. And I believe him. He got the others right.
Posted By: Bmat Jun 09, 2003 - 07:29 am | | I don't like the idea of aliens coming to the Earth because I find it hard to believe that they would be here for any reasons other than their own best interests, not ours.
Klaatu barada nikto - oh, shoot. I've given myself away.
Posted By: Hyperion Jun 09, 2003 - 08:27 am | | Ohh Spooky 2004 eh Ding_Man Do you know which guy it was? Try and find out if you don't? I would really like to read anything he has written I like to read stuff like that and then compare with others past and present who have made smilar predictions As to my personal opinion about what it would be like and what there intentions would be and how I would react, welll. I think it would be great if it did happen, hostile or otherwise. I think what Bmat says has just as much chance of being right as it does of being wrong. They might come out of nothing more than curiosity, then again they may come to simply gain slaves or new teritory that is breathable. If it was hostile, and they were well more advanced than us, and were on the look-out for traitors to help them conquor the planet, welll I will let you guess as to my actions But on the whole I think it would a great event in the Human History I feal that nothing but good would come from such an event-eventually, or to put it as best I can, in the long-run it would be good for us whether they were hostile or not. Hyperion out

Originally, it was from 'The Day the Earth Stood Still,' Dingman. I haven't seen Evil Dead in about 5 years, so I couldn't say if that line's in it or not.
Posted By: Nomad Jun 09, 2003 - 11:03 am | | Yeah, I recognised it as from 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. LoL As for sheiling of that type, who knows...it may be able to take a blast like that, but couldn't stop a bullet or projectile.
Posted By: Bmat Jun 09, 2003 - 11:14 am | | The Day the Earth Stood Still is a classic. I found an interesting site about it here. I didn't realize the religious analogy until I read it on that site.
i'm just saying, in movies its always the aliens who are immune to our weapons and laugh at anything we throw at them. well, hey, thats my point. whys it like that? i mean, they ALWAYS have some kind of shielding. but once again, if they could protect from it wouldn't they be able to drive right through a sun? thats the point i'm trying to make. the shielding can't exist.
Bmat - A girl in my science fiction class in college wrote an essay on Christianity/TDtESS. I'll try and see if I can get it off her, though I'm pretty sure it's basically a reiteration of what you've found.
Posted By: Bmat Jun 09, 2003 - 01:43 pm | | Should be interesting, thank you, Filmchick!
Posted By: Ding_man Jun 09, 2003 - 02:21 pm | | So you guys aren't Evil Dead buffs like me... Yeah it is in Army of Darkness its the lines he has to say to make the evil go away or something and he cant remember the last word so he goes Klaatu barada niCOUGH and it screwed it up and a whole army of 'darkness' was awoken and blah blah blah. Yeah...
Posted By: Nomad Jun 10, 2003 - 03:44 pm | | I remember that, Ding. That was a decent enough movie.
Posted By: Daelish Jun 20, 2003 - 05:24 pm | | Decent enough movie?! BAH, harumph and what not.
Bmat: "I don't like the idea of aliens coming to the Earth because I find it hard to believe that they would be here for any reasons other than their own best interests, not ours. " What if they are "GOD" If they are our creator... (I know I am late in here...) this is the year 2005... we did not have any contact in '04 officially....
Why would we ever need to destroy aliens anyways is my question. Well Ding_man, we destroy everything else, i.e. eachother, the planet we live on, and every guiding and vital prinipal that sustains us. Why not blow away aliens too?
