Sorry, but you need to do your own homework ;)

I'm sure you can find plenty of websites that discuss Dune and Frank Herbert in great detail. I suggest you start at Google, Altavista, or any other search engine you prefer.

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to write a fifteen-page essay for homework, whose premise was made by some idiot I don't even know, so instead of sitting down and thinking, I just go over to the nearest fantasy and science fiction forum and ask them! Yum!

Uck! I can't stand that sort of psychology. I thought someone had read Dune and got some wondeful meaning from it that he or she would like to share with us, and get our input on, so that wonderful idea could grow and be enjoyed by us all, we could have some sort of intelligent discussion, but no, it's "I need help with my homework: you please do it for me." You didn't even spell out "please" all the way!

I don't have the authority to be mad at you properly; like the Master does; so I apologize if this hurts you a little. You may wish to read my somewhat softer opinion in the James Thruber thread.

BTW, I think the best search engine is Dogpile, because it doesn't automatically assume you're buying something; it gives you real information.

No unkindness intended, but you will grow both as a student and a person if you do your own research. It will help you by giving you training which you will use all of your life both in learning how to discover information for which you are searching, as well as helping you develop skills in analysis and writing.

I also like dogpile.com - it gives you a sampling from a number of different search engines.

I wrote a 30-odd page paper on Dune in college. No, I won't send it to you, but I do remember finding two scholarly volumes devoted exclusively to his work. It surprised me to find them, but it only took about 20 minutes with a card catalog and a library to find them. This was before school libraries got computerized, so I bet it would take even less time now.

I think I dcould sum this up quite easily, and in only three words....

I have only read through "The Heretics of Dune" I am sure that the subsequent books will still be good.

Harsh, very harsh.
