Swapping over to the Fanasy side of our Genre for a change, [which is something I rarely do], I believe that fantasy has taken a sad turn for the worst over the last few years. Why? I here you screem, well let me see if I can't get my point across. It seems to me that fantasy has taken on the aim or goal of being books about nothing but Castles, Magic, Wizards, Witches and Dragons. That is a sad state of affairs in my humble opinion When I was first drawn into Fantasy, it took a truly great writer to make me buy a Fantasy book instead of a Sci-Fi one. I was up until then of the assumption that Fantasy was all about Magic, Wizards, Drgons and so on and so forth, and so I wasn't very keen to take a look into the world. Then I happened across a truly genius author, who taught me that not all Fanatsy was about those things, and that some Fantasy could be compelling un put downable reading, were the story's were romantic, heart warming and breath taking in there scope. Who was this great wonderfull Author? I here you ask; why - William Horwood - of course. His wonderfull books about the Duncton moles and there struggles, were truly a wonderfull treat and one of those very rare litaray finds, that don't come very often. I have treasured his works ever since, and when he brought out re writes and follow on story's to the Wind In The Willows story's with books like The Willows in Winter, I was delighted and thrilled. But allas the Fantasy side of our favoured pass time, is once again becoming nothing but said many times told over, story's about magic and dragons. Were are the truly great Fantasy authors like William Horwood; the Fantasy scene realy neads them to come back. Regards Hyperion
