You are of course, so right about ram, it is needed nowadays to feed the ever hungry games of today. Usually anything over 512 is ok, but if you want to totally not worry about not having enough ram, then 1 gig of ram is what you need, then you can be safe in the knowledge that your swap file wont be madly swapping away and slowing your game down via the hard drive, and that all those juicy graphics have enough room to sit in ram. As for a CPU, your's is exactly the same as mine, and I don't class it as mediocre , its more on the top end of the scale though the new 64 bit 400mhz = 800mhz dd rate fsb CPU's are at the cutting edge of the CPU peak. Graphics cards are another headache for us gamers, just when you think you have a decent enough card, new ones come out and games built and tested on the new ones arrive also I have a GeforceFX 5950 Ultra and thought it would be fine for a couple of years, but alas now the 6800's are out and of course the new dual channel pci express motherboards are coming out now along with the pci express graphics cards - so I will have to upgrade again soon Not only will I now have to get a new graphics card, BUT I will now have to get a new MOTHERBOARD also, because the AGP slot that most graphics cards use these days, will soon be redundant in favour of the pci slot again, along with the new dual channel pci express configuration that is. One good thing to come out of the new pci-express driven technology however, is that they say it will be cheaper in the long run, because motherboard builders wont have to build that extra AGP slot anymore and other things, and will stick to pci expansion slots only Plus of course the dual channel bus pipes is the best bit no more 1 channel getting jammed solid with incoming and outgoing traffic now the extra channel will take outgoing while the other takes incoming, unleashing that bottleneck and making for much faster more fluent speeds Hyperion
all i really know is it first debuted as a VHS game in the mid 90's--i was a big fan of it then--and it's now been remade into a dvd board game. i'm dying to know more!!
atmosfear, that is.
its a pretty sweet game. you have 49 minutes to make it around the board collecting keys. onscreen gate keeper makes this difficult though.
I would like to create an online RPG for learning languages... but I don't have time right now. After I finish my novel, I may have time... if no one has created such a game by then. Unfortunately, the good games are just too addicting. I have to avoid them unless they are educationally worth it because I'm trying not to get into things like that which would waste heaps of my time. I've been obsessed with games before, and I don't want that to happen again. I think that in the future it will become a political issue... Assuming holodecks will be invented, we'd have a serious problem. People try to become their characters, and they feel obligations to the other people playing with them.
Has anyone, besides me, had the pleasure of playing FABLE yet? If you haven't you need to.
Posted By: Magus Sep 29, 2004 - 10:16 am | | No, not yet. I'll try and get around to it. But I'm crazy busy over here, and may not get to it for a while. I still want to play Baldur's Gate again. I haven't made any headway there since summer, as I haven't played it since summer.
Alright another must play GTA San Andreas. Is it just me or is the gaming industry hitting a growth og good games?
Posted By: Magus Oct 27, 2004 - 02:15 pm | | Personally, I'd say no. There aren't nearly as many good games being made as there used to be, or, at least, games that I found good. This is painstakingly obvious in the video gaming industry. I feal it peaked with Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, making good, also, with Xbox. I have never played Playstation I or II, so I can't comment on that. It's not so bad with computer games, from what I've seen. There are several, most of which, however; are a few years old, that I want to play. But I'm not so much of a gaming condensuer as you may think. I stake out certain games and similarities in games, but also have a broad range of games. This is just my opinion. I'm certain that quality has improved on games that they make well. But I find most games out there nowadays a little sub par. Mostly, I think people just want a quick buck and bring forth unrefined products. But, on games that are of a good quality, it has, indeed, increased.
Games these days, as with all times, I'd say fluctuate. Every now and then you get these incredible gems of games that people adore, or in my case (Since I'm an avid connoseour(sp?)) some sleeper-hits that didn't get much publicity but were ten times better than the publicized games at the time. Xenogears, for example, is the greatest RPG ever made. The story is so involving, the characters are all great, and the best part is, the villains are relatable. The villains! I've never seen any game before this, or after this, where the villain was more than just mindless evil personified. The villains in Xenogears all have convincing reasons for doing the things they do, and the craziest part is most of them have done worse than any villain you can imagine. One of them even destroys 95% of the human race! But before I get on a Xenogears rant (Sorry, I tend to do that with that game), I'll talk about some other hits. Zone of the Enders, for example. People only bought the first one because it included a demo of Metal Gear Solid 2. I found the game to be better than MGS2, and not just because I'm a mecha fan. And when they released Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, I was absolutely blown away. The graphics in that game are just so amazingly beautiful and colorful, I couldn't stop playing it for the longest time. Its still perhaps my favorite mecha game to date. But yeah. This generation will see its share of good games and bad games, and somewhere in there there will be games that shine with a divine brilliance. Its those games I look for.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will shine with brilliance. It already does, and I've only seen screenshots. But basically they can't screw it up. They're taking the same concept that drove Morrowind and adding horses, storyline, AI, and a real combat system, and AMAZING GRAPHICS! It looks like it's already the frontrunner for RPG of 2005, though it won't be released until fall. However, there are whispers of another game, just beyond the horizon. A game that casts the shadow of fear over the heart of RPG developers everywhere. And they shall call it Baldur's Gate 3. It will consume our lives.
Call me cheesy but I'm anxiously awaying Kingdom Hearts 2. I'm still perplexed how they could pull off such a complex and involving storyling with Disney characters... Xenosaga Episode II should be good, too.
Posted By: Aslan Jan 19, 2005 - 08:09 am | | I'm playing World of Warcraft right now on my computer. Just a fantastic game. I find fewer and fewer enjoyable video games these days. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe because I'm getting older. Maybe because they're made differently and we have different expectations. I remember Super Dodge Ball on the old Nintendo system. Great game. But very simple. You just can't sell that game for $50 these days. And that's what manufacturers are trying to do. Come up with games that they can charge $50 for. The process for making a game these days is incredible. It takes years and hundreds of people. MMORPGs, especially, require an insane amount of effort. So games nowadays are less the product one one individual's imagination than the effort of a huge team. In some ways that's great. In some, I think it limits imagination. I've been playing a lot of board games lately. "Settlers of Catan" is fantastic for 3-4 players (or 5-6 if you get an expansion). "Diplomacy" is a great war game if you enjoy lying and betrayal. You can lose friends with that game. "Carcassone" and "Acquire" are also entertaining and very challenging. And I really like what they've done with the LOTR Risk adaptation. Well made. There will always be good games out there as long as you have good friends to play with. Hooray!
Civilization: the Board Game is an awesome one too.
Posted By: BenJaru Jan 19, 2005 - 02:29 pm | | wow, just read through the whole thread! I recently got morrowind but my comp is sorta slow so It takes half the fun out of it. I really love the whole style of the game, fighting sys etc. I also got the demo for spellforce, a RTS RPG combo. looks really good, especially since you can get right behind your character in a big battle and see it from that perspective instead of just isometric. YES! YES! YES! Just pooled my money with my sibs and got a video card from wal-mart. now we REALLY start gaming! Ok, soon I will get Battle for Middle Earth, Kevin... Sacred, a pretty good game, although my favotite part is being able to ride a horse! Fairion
Posted By: Aldan Jan 20, 2005 - 07:03 am | | ...which is something to look forward to in Oblivion, then...
Posted By: BenJaru Jan 20, 2005 - 08:57 am | | Does anyone know WHEN oblivion will be coming out. I mean down to the very year, month, week, day, hour, minute, second, Oh best beloved! (all you kipling fans will know what I mean!) Fairion
Nobody knows when it's coming out exactly. This year, not until after summer. It will rule.
Posted By: Aldan Jan 20, 2005 - 09:56 pm | | Last note was Fall, but with any of their games, it'll be out when it's ready to be (though it's not to the awful extent that Duke Pukem is, thank supposedly non-existant supposedly all-powerful supposed being *smirk*
Posted By: Hyperion Jan 21, 2005 - 06:10 am | | I haven't read anything on this Oblivion game yet, so I will look into, any links anyone? At the moment I am playing Tribes Vengeance on the PC along with Half Life 2, and I am awaiting the release of Knights Of The Old Republic 2 for the xbox, the first one was a good rpg for the xbox. I am not so much an rpg/rts player as I used to be. I seem to go through stages were I play nothing but rpg's or rts, fps's for a while, then change around again lol. My Favourite rpg of all time was Dungeon Siege from MS, and the exp pack for it. Dungeon Siege 2 will be awesome Hyperion
