Posted By: Aslan Sep 09, 2001 - 09:00 pm | | I'm watching these reruns for the first time, and I've only seen a very few of the new ones. The recent episodes are much higher quality. The interactions between the characters have so much more depth, and technically and visually it's much smoother, too. Agreed, Crais is much better as an ally. Again, a huge addition to the depth of the characters. The whole "you killed my brother" seemed really lame and forced. Speaking of which, I agree with the Master that John's pop culture references are much less distracting now than in the early eps. In an escapist fantasy, why would the viewer want to be reminded of fairly meaningless references to our own daily lives? Personally, it pulls me out of the sense of "being there" and back to the real world. I'm glad that's smoothed out a little. I enjoy seeing how everything develops. I can't wait to meet even more characters that I've already met! High praise to the kingpins at SciFi for playing these reruns... in order!

" If we were transported to the future or to another world, it would make sense that we would occasionally speak of things from our lives. The former life is not erased from our minds just because we are elsewhere. So in that respect the Farscape way of including references may be realistic, even though it seemed to me that it was for the humorous effect. I think some references to John's past life add a touch of humor to the show. It seems a clever device. It is amusing that he can mention something the audience knows about, and the other characters don't catch it at all or respond with a blank expression.
In this case those references really do have a place. John is from our world and our time, so its a reflection of that...or more precisely, of John's US/western pop culture saturated life! It's just better when it flows and is more subtle instead of seeming clumsily forced into the dialog.

I'm going back a few posts here Iz - Did you know they wanted to alter Delenn's voice too? What part of Mira Furlan would have been left then exactly???? PS - we just got Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda over here

Ah, I miss Zhann, she was so *FarScape* This was a great episode with all the other Delvians, Blue Beings across the screen. Superior make-up, sets and costumes as well as a story about removing oneself from one's past, the lost as well as the saved. Cutting the tree was so symbolic, everything must change, like it or not. Crichton & Zhann becoming as One, The One, a universal concept between different species in Sci-Fi. That was a great set of scenes how the camera *transposed* their two bodies while the script spoke of Acid & 10 years of great sax, but as well, of truth. Truth is often a hard fact. We are all One, united. So as one (we) are never lost completely however great the challenge. This episode offers words of wisdom during these most trying of times in RL. Sorry to blend RL with the love of our favorite show but I for one am looking for something to help ease the pain. Thank You FarScape. GOD BLESS AMERICA! ZimNova
Posted By: Iznardi Sep 21, 2001 - 10:03 am | | Well, my enthusiam for discussin scifi has also been dampened by the attack, but I admit the need to escape every once in a while. So, two things: First, the original episode with Chiana seems to imply that she can become invisible. Did the series every follow up on that? Second, I think tonight's episode is one of the two I missed during the original run--so there's some advantage to missing these things. I'll put up my reactions on Monday.
Posted By: Bmat Sep 21, 2001 - 10:48 am | | I had the same impression at first- that she could become invisible, but I don't think it was ever repeated. Were we supposed to assume that she could move with such stealth somehow that she could get around unnoticed?
Posted By: Iznardi Sep 24, 2001 - 03:49 am | | well, no reaction, Sci-Fi ran the relief fund concert instead. and i couldn't make it to 1 a.m. to try and catch the next airing of the episode. oh well--still something to look forward to
I couldn't watch it either, and I don't remember it well enough to reply Sorry Iz.
