Posted By: ZimNova Jul 17, 2002 - 06:36 pm | | Bmat...You would have to read the *Psi-Corps* trilogy by J. Gregory Keyes. I've never read it myself, shame, shame. But I do know JMS was going to do something with that story line as part of the still-born Crusade series (triple those worthless fools at TNT [spit]. From what I understand, Bester was to recall the events of the revolt on Mars by Lyta and the rogues told in the past tense as Lyta was already dead at that point in the story. We will never know? That story to me would make a great Babylon-5 major motion picture...prays to the Great Maker. Funny Con. story. I met Greg at AgamemCon III in Burbank, CA in 1999. I had never seen him before but noticed his con. badge (writer guest of honor) while we were setting at the bar at the Burbank Hilton on the Thursday night before the convention started. Thing is, unlike VORcon the year before in Pomona where Thursday night was a huge gathering of fans from all over the world, (VORcon was *the last of the best* featuring 33 actors from the show), the lobby of the Hilton was *dead* that night. The two of us at the bar had one thing in common, Babylon-5! He told me of having interviews with Walter trying to get into Besters head and better understand how the actor played the character during the show so as to make the books more authentic for the fans of Babylon who would be reading them. We closed down the bar, which was funny because we were the only one's left at 02:00 and at least 5 staff members were waiting for us to leave but they were polite enough to leave us be 'cause this was the *Hilton* after all....LOL and believe you me, there were plenty of hardy laughs that night. Later Greg was nice enough to attend many of the room party's and I have the pictures to prove it! These Con's are great fun and if you ever have the time to attend one forget the cost for remember; "Money is nothing but paper with numbers on it, living life is what's important". ZimNova
Posted By: Bmat Jul 17, 2002 - 07:41 pm | | Thanks for the story, Zim! I read the first of the Psi-Corps books and was not motivated to read the others. Thanks for the information though. Bmat
Posted By: Sindatur Jul 18, 2002 - 05:49 am | | Bmat, told you you needed to finish the trilogy. The second book might be more enjoyable for you because it starts with Al Bester as a child and the 3rd book does indeed answer your question about what happened to Bester.
Posted By: Nomad Jul 18, 2002 - 08:34 am | | Personally, I enjoyed reading about the history of the PsiCorps. It was great to read it from the point of view of Bester himself. It made him a little less of a monster than we all know he is. lol
Posted By: Iznardi Jul 18, 2002 - 10:16 am | | Bmat, I cheated and read number three in the trilogy, only. It was OK. I was hoping for something along the lines of JAWS, where they shove the oxygen tank down his throat and then pull the trigger. No such luck. But worth a read.

LOL@ Iz!!!!!!! >>scuffs foot<<, yeah Sindatur, I remember you did tell me that. Now I'm a little more motivated after what you all are telling me.

Posted By: Nomad Nov 18, 2003 - 08:33 am | | Neil Gaiman on New Series November 9 Comic and SF author Neil Gaiman, on his online blog today, posted a response to a question, which was "Russel T. Davies has suggested that the first season of new Doctor Who episodes will include 13 episodes at 45 minutes apiece. Any chance you would write an episode if asked?" Gaiman's answer: "If I have time, certainly. (It took five years to find time to write a Babylon 5 episode, of course...)" Gaiman recently penned the foreword for the forthcoming Telos Doctor Who novella "Eye of the Tyger" so he's obviously very familiar with the show... (Thanks to Steve Manfred)
Posted By: ZimNova Nov 30, 2003 - 10:14 pm | | This just in from the moderated newsgroups. Quote: ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jms at B5" Newsgroups: rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2003 5:34 AM Subject: Re: attn. JMS: Update? ... On the B5 front, there has been something of rather substantial proportion that's finally gone from talk to money, such that I'm now working frantically to meet some deadlines, but there's nothing I can say about this until after January 15th, probably closer to the end of that month. The only thing I can say is that phase one of the new project is a go, hence the furious writing schedule at this end of things, which is why I've been silent until deciding to kick up some dust on the political discusion. I've been writing my little brains out. I know the immediate result of this will be speculation, but if we could keep that to a low roar on the nets to avoid precluding anything, that would be a wonderfulness. But trust me: I wouldn't go on about something in this way if it wasn't a significant development. Just trust me on this one for a bit and hold fire until further word. (Longtime followers of the various news groups know that an eep means that something significant has happened, but that I can't talk about it...the eep is just a way of saying, on the QT, that something has, indeed, happened and it's real, not just speculation or maybe-gonna-happens. So on that basis, you may consider this an eep.) And on the topic of fans for a moment...I'm happy to mention that we've included a thanks to Steve Grimm (Lurker's Guide) and our resident moderator Jay Denebeim on the Season 5 DVD. Just a way of saying thanks for years of help and support. Oh, yeah...and next year you can expect two new DVD sets that a) include all of the TV movies in one package with commentaries from me on "The Gathering" and "In the Beginning" and b) package all 13 of the Crusade episodes into one box. jms (jmsatb5@aol.com) all message content (c) 2003 by synthetic worlds, ltd., permission to reprint specifically denied to SFX Magazine and don't send me story ideas.
Is this great news or what on top of the recent announcment of the 4 hour Farscape mini-series set to start production in Oz this month? ZimNova
Posted By: Nomad Dec 01, 2003 - 08:27 am | | YEEEEEE HAAAAA! In this case...going backwards it the best thing that can happen. YiP....Something new form the B5 unbiverse is comeing our way as weell as Farscape. Now we will see if this new ins supposedly improved Battlestar Galactica thing is worthy.
I got that too Zim. Kinda hopeful.
Posted By: Bmat Jan 30, 2004 - 10:09 am | | Is there any news about that project that JMS mentioned?
Posted By: Nomad Jan 30, 2004 - 11:13 am | | Good Question. I havent heard anything. Sindatur, Zim?
Posted By: Sindatur Jan 30, 2004 - 11:34 am | | I've been looking, and haven't seen anything yet. Everytime someone posts in JMS Speaks over at H-Board, I get all excited thinking "Is this it finally"? But so far, nothing. It should be anytime, because JMS said mid to end of Jan would be the earliest he could flap his lips.
Posted By: Sindatur Jan 30, 2004 - 12:02 pm | | I spoke too soon, here ya go (From B5LotR official site): ----------------------------------------------- Here's JMS' latest post--enjoy! It's taken longer than hoped for to be able to talk about this, because it's taken longer than hoped for to go through all the machinations of the deal. Depending on the nature of a given deal, it can take a few weeks to a couple, three months to actually cut the deal and finalize the language in terms everybody can agree with. We only literally finished the deal last week. Writing on B5:TMoS is complete, and as soon as the powers that be sign off on everything, it can be turned in and we can start moving. At that point, I can say more about this. Figure another couple of weeks. jms ----------------------------------------- Speculation seems to running wild as to the initials, which JMS apparently did on purpose, just to make us salivate and theorize a little longer.
Posted By: Bmat Jan 30, 2004 - 12:06 pm | | Yay!!! Thanks, Sindatur! What are some ideas, meanwhile, about the initial? My guess is The Mission of Sinclair
Posted By: Sindatur Jan 30, 2004 - 12:10 pm | | I believe that was one WAG. Others were: Technomages of Soom The mindless speculation (LOL)
Posted By: ZimNova Jan 30, 2004 - 05:32 pm | | Thanks Sindatur for the update. My WAG; "The Movement of Shadows". The story of Babylon history just after the "loss" of B-4 and before the building of B-5 when the shadows were awakening and the dren was about to hit the fan. The story might focus on Sinclair after the Earth/Minbari war and all the "rumors" coming from deep space about a new ancient enemy most had forgotten about (see various statements from Delenn & G'Kar from the first season). This would fit "cannon" as already seen because of the Sinclair/Valan "time loop" from *WWE 1 &2* and would bring in new players to the story arc. Bottom line is; "I'm excited as all hell on this news". Woo Frelling Hoo. ZimNova
Posted By: Sindatur Jan 30, 2004 - 08:12 pm | | Zim, I love yours. I'd also like to see any of the following three Mini-series: Valen's first Shadow/Vorlon War in a . This could also incorporate the legend that was G'Quon, and the circumstances behind the extinction of the Narn telepaths, as well as providing a younger view of Species such as the Walkers, and the Tiki Torch First ones (Perhaps even see the underlying reason for the dispute/jealousy between them and the Vorlons). [Vorlons and Shadows were Probably already too old to be any different than theymwere in B5 proper] (The Message of Sinclair) A B5 Prequel ------------------------------------------------- Lyta/G'Kar adventures. Watch Lyta investigate the far corners of the Universe, and increase her control of her mental powers, while learning to be a Politican through all the alien encounters G'Kar brings to her. Always keeping in mind her ultimate goal for Byron. Garibaldi knows what to do. (The Mind of a Soldier) ------------------------------------------------ the Teep War could be really fantastic too (A 10 to 20 minute synopsis of #2, and the the rest of the Mini-Series follows the 3 years Garibaldi develops Lyta's army, and Lyta comes back and uses it in her battle against Bester and his growing power and arrogance). (Telepath Memories of Sorrow)
Posted By: Sindatur Jan 31, 2004 - 06:37 am | | Another small piece I got from B5 LotR this morning: _________________________________________________ One of the guesses on rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated was correct: Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just to honk you off even further about all th is...in the speculation of titles...one of you was correct. jms (jmsatb5@aol.com) (all message content (c) 2004 by synthetic worlds, ltd., permission to reprint specifically denied to SFX Magazine and don't send me story ideas) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So now somebody has to list all the suggestions made in that thread before that message. EDIT: Here are all the titles suggested before* JMS said one was correct: Babylon 5: The Meanng of Spoo Theatrical Movie, original Story The mother of Sheridan The Minbari of Steel The Mollari of Spoo Triluminary-Modified operating System The Man of Steel Too Many odd Suggestions B5:TMoS - Theatrical Movie of Sorts B5:TMoS - Telepaths Move on Saturday B5:TMoS - Terribly Mean of Straczynski Babylon5: The MIND of Straczynski The Meatballs of Swedes The Marriages of Sheridan The Mutation of Sinclair The Men of Space The Mammaries of Susan The Meaninglessness of Speculation. The Minstrations of Sugar Telepath Monopoly of Space Trans Morphing Optical Stuff The Meaning of S*** The Mighty Obvious Script The Mound of Scripts The Movie of Surprises Time Makes Our Society Twenty Minbari Order Sandwiches The Movie Script The Memory of Shadows The Movement of Shadows The Mark of Shadows The Memory of Sheridan The Murder of Shiv'kala The Martyrdom of Sinclair The Mystery of Souls Telepath Minds on Speed Babylon 5: The Music of Sondheim Babylon 5: The Making of the Series B5: The Misdirection of Speculation Telepathic Mindwipe of Sheridan. Terrific Marvels of Space (a documentary) Babylon Five : Total Marmallisation of Spacestation That Mean Ol' Straczynski (from B5_Obsessed at b5tv.com) The Movement of Starlight Two Marsupials on Speed Talia, Marcus, or Susan Terribly Mean of Straczynski Babylon 5: The Myth of Souls Babylon 5: The Myth of Shadows Babylon 5: The Mystery of Sheridan Techno-Mages of Silliness Techno-Mages of Song Techno-Mages on Strike The Movie on Sunday The Movie opposite SuperBowl Telepaths: Meet our Sponsor Throw Morden off Station The Mouth of Sheridan -------------------------------------------------- It wouldn't surprise me if it's: B5: Theatrical Movie, original Story. Only problem with that is why would he have "original" represented by a lower case, rather than capital "O"
Posted By: Bmat Jan 31, 2004 - 07:19 am | | The Mark of Shadows or The Myth of Shadows both have an intriguing sound to them. My first thought was like yous, Sindatur, Theatrical Movie, but yeah the caps and lower case don't make sense then. Thank you for the list!
