I am having trouble finding the name of a science fiction tv series I watched religiously as a young child. I can't find any clues online. It ran in the US in the early 80s, or quite possibly the late 70s.

I apologize, but this is all I remember thus far: It seemed to have taken place primarily in space, possibly on a barren planet (the moon?) inside a spaceship/spacestation (I believe it was a crashed/broken ship). The series was shot with live actors and actresses interacting with puppet-like creatures, much like a cross between Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica (or more recently Farscape). It was shown in a soap opera stlye, where each episode ended in a cliff-hanger and the main plot ran through the entire series (like Babylon 5). I remember one main creature (a bad guy?) "giving birth" to a half-male-half-female being. I know this because it was able to speak, and when it spoke, it's voice changed from feminine to masculine between sentences. It may not have been a main character of the series, but it sticks out most in my mind.

Someone PLEASE help! This has been plaguing me for about 20 years. What was the name of this series? Thank you in advance.

That does not sound at all familiar. I thought I watched all scifi in the 70's - 80's.

Some more details came to me today:
It ran in the US some time between 2-4pm, because I'd watch it immediately after coming home from school. I'm not sure if was a British series under syndication, or if was produced here in the US. I know it had to run on one of the major stations, because at the time our family did not have cable.

The series had a "dark" feel to it, similar to many episodes of Dr. Who. The sets were dark, semi-metallic maybe, very dingy looking.

If I remember correctly, there was a debate within the plot on whether the birthed (or was it hatched?) creature was going to be male or female, which surprised everyone by being ... both.

The puppet creatures were NOT the type seen in Gerry Anderson's series (i.e., Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds, etc.) They were more along the lines of early Jim Henson "muppets", and had a lot more interaction between themselves and the live actors (also why I said it reminded me of Star Wars).

I thought with all that it seemed appropriate to date it circa 1979-82, but then I remembered that they had been doing the muppet/human interaction long before then (Sigmund the Seamonster). So now I'm back to "confused".

I was gonna suggest Thunderbirds or Capt. Scarlet, but, you did say Muppet-like, so I passed. It does kinda sound British, so maybe you do wanna start there. I don't believe Quark or Space 1999 had Muppets in them, so I'm at a loss. If it's a Saturday morning/Sunday Morning Kid's program, it could be very difficult to track down the name.

This might be a long shot, but you wouldn't happen to be thinking of the movie and series "V" would you, that starred Robert England right after the first Nightmare on Elm Street came out? Not exactly muppets, but by today's standards the alien creatures looked fairly crude. I only mention this because I haven't seemed to find any information on V on this forum.

I sem to remember a muppet like show on Saturday morning's here in the UK, but I'm not sur if there were live actors in it. I thin it was called Starfleet, and I vaguely remember ships turning into a giant robot but thats about it !
