All I'll add is - Francesca Buller = Scarren
Posted By: ZimNova Feb 10, 2003 - 01:57 pm | | This was a first rate Farscape episode. Bringing Home the Beacon gets 4 out of 5 Moya's from me [thanks Capt. H]. That's because I tend to like the "costume dramas" with all the far-out aliens and such. It's even better when there's a fine story as well. Episodes such as "Thank God it's Friday, Again", the "Look at the Princess" trilogy, "Thanks for Sharing" & "Scratch 'n' Sniff" all come to mind. I dig movies like "Brotherhood of the Wolf" and "Affair of the Necklace" for the same reasons. BHtB was that kind of visual "wham" episode where I just set back and enjoy it on first viewing then look for all the intrigue and story arc angles later while reviewing the tape a couple of times. Plus did you catch the new Scarran look? They super-imposed an actors face onto the otherwise modeled Scarran head during a few scenes making the eyes a much more realistic looking effect. Check the shot at 19:40 during the meeting between Grayza & Ahkna. That was just plain creepy. Fran Buller playing Ahkna was an added bonus as she's such a talented actress. I'm hoping we'll see Ahkna again in the last 6 ep.'s. Having all the girls together and for the most part working together was a lot of fun. I actually liked the Norati character here. She was useful as the "taste tester" when Rekka tried to drug their drinks. Watching her and Chiana play it up with Braca was good old fashioned LOL funny. Chi looked great too in her "disguise". I don't think any other SF genre show plays the tongue in cheek stuff better that Scape. We see in BHtB that many of the big pieces in the story arc are being positioned with the prospect of a peace treaty between the Scarrans & the PK, who are selling out the Luxans as a bargaining chip. Will Sikozu pass that information along to Ka D'argo to pass along to the Luxan high council? Problem being all the players are driven by self interests serving their personal careers as much as they are representing their respective power bases. It was unclear to me if they're acting as true ambassadors or mercenaries. The only question was who would double cross whom first? Ahkna was the more aggressive and gets the drop on Grayza and her security escort. BTW, Do you think the Scarran who put the mind frell ray on Braca picked up that he's a spy working for Scorpius? Speaking of Scorpius, whose side is he really on? He could be playing all sides against the middle to futher his own personal agenda and quest for power. Then there is Sikozu. We really don't know that much about her past other than what she's told everyone, she's Kalish, she speaks Scarran, is really intelligent for a "tech." and has a trust of Scorpius [remember she dug him up from the grave] the other crew members don't share. It "appears" Grayza & Braca escaped but with Scape one can never be sure of anything until it happens. I mean, Grayza was in the replicating machine for a time. Long enough for the Scarrans to have copied her pattern? They only had Aeryn for half an arn but were able to make a copy. Will we be seeing the "real" Grayza next time out or a replicant standing next to Ahkna declaring her support for the Scarran conquest of the UT's? As to how long Aeryn had been a "biomechanoid"? I tend to think the Scarrans made it up pretty quick, which not being completely programmed, made mistakes that made it easy for John to spot the fake. Lots of posters at the Farscape BBoard think because Aeryn has been acting "different" [mostly shippers but not me] since she showed up with Scorpius in "Promises" that she's been a copy since that time. Two problems with that theory. If Aeryn was a Scarran spy why would she: A) not have used her knowledge to rat out that the PK do not have a wormhole weapon to Ahkna when she had the chance? & B) try to kill Grayza to protect the ruse? John's comment at the end that; "It was never Aeryn" I believe was intentionaly ambiguous to fuel just this sort of speculation. I was thinking later that if the Cy-Aeryn had been aboard Moya longer than that Ka D'argo should have "smelled" that something was up because how could a fake machine Aeryn smell the same as the real Sebacean Aeryn? Overall I liked BHtB a lot because as is offen the case in the best Farscape episodes there were more questions than answers and now next Friday seems a light year away. Will the real Aeryn please stand up...now that's good television! ZimNova
