Posted By: ZimNova Apr 12, 2002 - 06:34 pm | | Wow man There is just way to much going on to do any justice with a short review of *ITLD*. As a start I thought the B&W segments were cool, right down to the scratchs on the film...LOL. Thing is I thought the hard *Harvey* was removed by the Diagnosan doctor and the soft version by the Ancients long ago series wise? We had re-unions, betrayals, new characters and enough plot threads to make a Farscape *crazy quilt*. I am simply blown away right now and will have to collect myself, watch the ep. on tape maybe 3 or 4 times again to try to figure out what happened. Great maker I love this show! ZimNova
Wasn't that the "other John" who finally got rid of Harvey? The whole Roller Coaster thing and all. So this John still has his. This was a great ep. The jet pack/power room fight was pretty good but a little herky-jerky looking. Not bad for a TV budget though. Lots of new characters...I like Aeryn's friend. She may have a good role to play in the upcoming events. Crais' girlfriend was a surprise. Not that he had one, but that they were all over each other so fast. They hinted at it, but right from the get go I thought she was playing him because it was so "un-peacekeeper like" for her to act like she was 100% on his side. We know that PK's will betray their own families in a heartbeat from Aeryn's history...this chick is just a lover. The sideline with D'Argo is interesting. I think I'll miss the rings in his collarbone. I'm fuzzy on the info he wanted and who its about...anyone able to bring me up to speed there? Rygel's plotting to take back his power was a hoot. How they manage to convey so much glee through a puppet never ceases to amaze me. Man-o-man and I looking forward to the next two eps!
Posted By: Nomad Apr 13, 2002 - 04:49 pm | | ....and why didnt anyone menti0on the end??? Hmmmm...Welllll.....??????< I mean Jeez...Scorpy has found out where Earth is and is threatening John, now. So, the way I see it...John REALLOY has to destroy all wormhole tech....including the Scarrans! The he can get to earth on his own. Soiund good? YEah, right! Scorpy is probably lieing anf really doesnt know where Earth is.
Frankly, I didn't comment on it because of the previews. It appears to me that John goes foward with helping him, so I want to wait until next week to see where the Earth thing goes. I'm just not sure of its relevance to the progression of the story.
Posted By: ZimNova Apr 13, 2002 - 08:33 pm | | Upon Further Review Master right...both John's equal & perfect. Long Post The crews grand entrance to the command carrier sets the stage for the entire episode. Crais' quick glance at Larell, Reljik's look of contempt at Scorpius' announcement that our hero's would be granted full immunity and all the Nth Reich trappings were all an indication of what was to come. The *A* Story. John's on a mission but as in all things Farscape, like in the fog of war, all the plans go out the window after the first shot's fired. I liked how Crichton & Crais started off with more demands. Good strategy as we have something you want. The price has just doubled. "That wasn't part of the deal". Tough dren. I also liked how John set the parameters, giving orders to Scorpius about how the research would be conducted. The *B* Story. Everything else and plenty of it! The mess hall scenes as well as the trips around the CC were great in their portrayal of how much all the regular troops hate Moya's crew. Bottom line is there is no going back for Aeryn, even with her former friend Henta. Aeryn sees she made the right choice, a choice of conscience that Henta fails to see. Crais too has second thoughts about being a PK. Best insult: Crais to Braca; "You are a consummate Peacekeeper". LOL Ka D'Argo loses his slave rings as well as getting infomation on *Macton*. Master FYI, that's the PK who really killed Ka D'argo's Sebacean wife. The crime he was framed for and served 8 cycles in chains. Rygel gets more info on the political situation back home which both start story threads into S-4. Ah, the fight. Even Jool chips in, proving she'a a part of the team. The romance between Crais & Larell...an obvious deception on her part. Enter Mele-On Grayza, kick ass PK bitch (is she the wicked witch of the west?). Scorpius; "Appeasement = Suicide". Much like the current situation in Israel. Sorry to interject current real world events into the conversation Now to what I thought was the biggest flaw. Chiana has become the foil to Jool, which is all well and good except Chi has been cast as of late as only a Tralp. See the scene with Reljik in the mess hall. This sucks. I really don't know where the writers are going with Gigi's character but I for one hope they go back to her being bigger than a sexual pixie. Gigi as an actor has given us great stuff with her character but she can only do what is written for her part. More later. ZimNova
Ahhh...thanks Zim. The name didn't ring a bell for me (they make me wait to freaking long between stuff!) so I missed it. Chiana didn't have the best role in this ep, but I liked the scene in the scene with Reljik. She was playing with him to annoy him, not really being slutty or anything. Her visions aren't being pulled off too smoothly though. They need to work on that...I think more subtle would be better. And yes, we've got an uber-bitch PK on our hands. Unless she gets killed in the next two eps (unlikely, but you never know with Farscape) I expect she will loom large next season.
Macton was also the brother of Ka Dargo's wife - PK ethics for ya there!
Very subtle episode, I think ... while the action proceded in typical FarScape whack'emabout, there were all kinds of clues/forshadowings about the next directions that this could go. Rygel has hope of recovering his empire -- all he has to do is find out where Hyneria is, GET there, raise an army, and defeat his cousin(?)... a piece of cake for Sparky. D'argo has freed himself of his marks of bondage, and has direct information on the whereabouts of somebody that he's bound to take revenge upon. Not in that warrior's nature to forgive and forget. Crais has got a love-interest ... and are we *sure* that she'll betray him? PK's are being portrayed more frequently as troubled with their life, and not necessarily given to blind obedience ... Aeryn: she'll support what John is doing, but even she is clear that John is no longer sure what is the right thing to do. He thinks too much; makes him human ... and probably far more alien to the others. (BTW: a favorite line was Crichton's warning to Grayza, about how when his friends are threatened, he's given to doing Really Stupid Things -- and Aeryn's laconic concurrence.) Scorpy's obviously in big trouble on the command carrier ... it seems that beyond Bracca, and the concept of the chain of command, he's got very little going for him there. Like all great bad-guys, he's let his obsession get the better of him. FarScape is given to having everything come apart at the end of the season ... it surely looks like they're shaping up to do it again. -- and just a couple of random thoughts: Chianna's 'getting to know' Rejlik seemed to fit very well within her character, I thought. Seemed to be a typical ploy on her part, to gravitate towards a powerful figure, slut or no. It's entirely possible that she is driven to do this: remember that storyline (not really continued after her contact with her brother) which suggested that she and the brother were vectors carrying a contagion that would create passivity when some sort of signal was given. (Don't remember all the details, or who programmed this, just that she was a biological weapon) Assuming that IS her role, acting like a tralk with the nearest figure of power might not be under her control. Here's a question, also: if Moya had towed Talyn to a safe site "4 arns away" when the crew was heading to the command carrier: ***How the heck did Crais get Talyn there for refurbishing????*** ... Moya wasn't along then, and it was pretty quick for an escort to go out and bring him back, even if Moya would have let him go. .... and did anybody else notice that when the Grayza's squad was escorting Moya in as a captive, that there was an active wormhole sitting right there outside the gammack base? No mention was made of that -- I wonder if that prefigures something with that view of earth?
Posted By: ZimNova Apr 14, 2002 - 11:36 pm | | Asp...Remember that during *Infinite Possibilities: Daedalus Demands & Icarus Abides* that Furlow had built a copy of the Farscape 1 and was experimenting flying it through a *stable* wormhole. I think the wormhole we saw in the background behind the Command Carrier was the same one and that's why Scorpy parked his ship there. I have a feeling, just a guess really that we may soon see Furlow again. Also right about Scorpius. He has some juice aboard the CC but just how much remains to be seen. They called Mele-On Graysa a *Commandant* so in the PK command Scorpy must out rank her because he was able to countermand her orders and have Moya and her crew released. Also there must be doubts about his quest to create a new weapon in the PK High Command as Grayza vowed to return with orders from HIS superiors to shut the project down driving him to threaten John with the invasion of Earth should Crichton keep draging his heels. This just keeps getting better all the time! Speaking of the PK, it was cool to see more of how they live and what kind of people make up the ranks. We learned more about them during this episode than the rest of the series combined. I also have to comment that the sets, costumes & CGI were all excellent. Small details like the Prowler that Henta was working on had small dents & dings on it. Just like a real one would. I agree that Rygel's conquest to regain his throne and Ka D'argo getting his revenge against Macton will be part of the story arc in S-4. I really hope TPTB return Chiana to her former status though, we never see Jothee again and Stark comes back a little more mellow. ZimNova
Sure hope this isn't a spoiler, but wasn't Scorpy trying to make wormholes - but they kept "melting" the pilots of the test craft? Plus, something I though of while watching that ep - wanna bet Crais will double cross his love interest before she gets to try it to him?
Posted By: ZimNova Apr 15, 2002 - 01:07 pm | | Ian, if I remember correctly that wormhole has always been there, Scorpy didn't create it. Furlow is the only one who has the stablizer to keep the test pilots who tried to travel through it from turning into bloody red goo. Ah but Crichton too has the infomation from the ancients to solve that same problem! Asp.....Accessing Data Files.....Got it! Chiana's being infected with a biological contagion was from *A Clockwork Nebari* (#2.18). In that episode some other Nebari come aboard Moya forcing Pilot to head for a Nebari outpost. They also use a drug indused version of the Mind Cleansing on members of the crew to secure their cooperation. As it turned out Chiana and her brother Nerri had always wondered why it was so easy for them to have been allowed to leave Nebari Prime? The *Establishment*, the governing body of Nebari Prime has a nefarious plan to conquer the universe by spreading this contagion, a plan in place for over 20 cycles (plot thread for S-4?). However Nerri, with help from someone high up in The Establishment gave him an antidote which he used on himself & Chiana. Chiana thought Nerri was dead, (See: *Taking the Stone*) but Meelak, one of the Nebari aboard Moya and an agent of Nerri's, shows her a hologram of Nerri from only 10 days prior showing him leading an attack against Nebari transport ships and telling Chiana he's alive and well but it is too dangerous for them to meet for the time being. The reason they wanted Chiana back was to try to find out who the traitor is who had helped Nerri secure the antidote. So to answer your question. No, Chiana is no longer infected. specical thanks to Farscape World for the synopsis ZimNova
