Help finding name of old fantasy film

This has been bugging me for YEARS so I hope someone here can help. I've looked for it every where so I'm sure its fairly obscure. As I get older the details fade and now I don't remember much of it at all. I think it was a movie either in the late 70s or early 80s that they showed on HBO quite a bit because I remember watching it over and over again. It was a fantasy movie with a medieval theme. The main person was a male and he was on a journey or quest or something with a group of travelors (there was a lot of traveling through the woods) and if I recall correctly, he had a very tall man (giant perhaps) with him. I think there was a witch and it ended in a big fight in some kind of big hall. It is NOT LadyHawk, Pricess Bride, or Willow -- those were all much later than this. Not much to go by is it?

Was the tall man a cyclops?

It could be Krull, which has a male protagonist and lots of traveling through the woods. His quest was to rescue his fiance from a magical moving mountain, and there was a scene with a giant spider, and they rode horses with hooves of fire. Also, there were changelings, who had empty black eyes. I think you'd remember them, if this is the movie you're thinking of.

Definitely not Krull although thankyou for the suggestion. But Hawk the Slayer...hmm.. I'll have to check that out. It SOUNDS familiar...

Apparently my childlike mind was mesmorized by it all - including the silly string! I'm gonna buy a copy and laugh it up. Wow.
