For ages now I've wanted to find a computer game that would allow me to explore an alien world. The Halo's of this world are well and good but I'd rather explore than just constantly kill stuff - perhaps I'm hankering after an RPG?

Can anyone suggest a good sci-fi RPG where I can live out my fantasy - must have good graphics.

Thanks

Try Knights of the Old Republic for X-box or PC.

If you go WAY BACK into the SSI Gold Box game era, then you'll find that there were two different Buck Rogers games created by SSI in that style. Both were RPGs. Also, don't forget about Fallout 1 and 2. Fallout Tactics is still fairly RPG, too, but not to the same extent.

Star Wars Galaxies is what you are looking for. It's an actual Scifi RPG.

none of them meet up with the complexities and wealth of information you can find in a normal RPG game. i try out a lot of new games that come out for the pc and find the sci-fi rpg games lacking because of this, although if you can find System Shock 1 & 2 (review here of part 2 : http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/systemshock2/), it's a pretty long winded, character advancible PSI type sci-fi pc game

there aren't many sci-fi rpg manual games out there, Paranoia, Opera, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars D6 system.

there are people who game using IRC and manual systems, no more meeting up in peoples basements, play from your own homes linked together in IRC !!! but i have only found groups playing fantasy games, unless anyone knows any different?

Yeah, there isn't really a, "COMPLEX, highly detailed as far as players interactions go" scifi rpg out there.

KOTOR did well trying to get there, but it lacked in gamer interactivity as far the RPG side of the game went. RPG's are meant to be far more interactive that what KOTOR was. Maybe there is hope with KOTOR 2 but I doubt it.

There are a few RTS scifi based games, some are great,Homeworld and Homeworld 2 spring to mind, some/most are just more of the same old same old however.

Starcraft. It's more of a strategic warfare game though. ... "more of"... Well, it IS a strategic warfare game. But it is pretty awsome. I recommend it highly.

Oh, and don't forget about FALLOUT! That was a groundbreaker, and was SO well done, it was almost pitiful. I suppose that you could try to call it a "future fantasy" (even though it's science-based, at least according to the science of the 50s and 60s {the time period the game was based on}).

There is a reason why there's not many sci-fi RPG's out there. Back when RPG's were coming into our homes on the NES, you would play a hero in a fatasy world, and since then most RPGs have followed that premise. As for the Sci-fi genre, they took on the whole shooter/spacecraft games back in the 8-bit days. But now, slowly, sci-fi games are seeking a new home in RPG world.. Oh.. to answer the question.. give Anarchy Online a shot.
