Has anyone read "The Princess Bride". Or even seen the movie? I've read the abridged version by William Goldman. What did you guys (and gals) think of the books or the movie?

Yes to both. I liked the movie and also the book, and I recommend both.

I've read the book a long time ago, maybe 10 years before the movie.

The book is good but I think the movie is a joy to watch, there is not one moment in it where you might be bored. I guest I watch it about once a year at least

I do plan on reading the book, because the movie is our family's favourite. I want to be the first to read the book.

The book is great. Just a quick correction, though, so more people might get the biggest joke. This could be considered a spoiler so...

It says it's the abridged version of S. Morgenstern's classic tale, but really William Goldman made it all up. S. Morgenstern is a joke, and he uses the illusion of abridgment to add many comedic comments on the style of old "classical masterpieces"

Yes, I did find that out. It is quite funny.

I've seen and read, too.
I recommend both. The author is a screenwriter by trade, and it shows in his writing. Most of the movie is word-for-word from the book. The book does add nice details, though. Worth a quick read if you love the movie like me!
