i was given the first book to the "fire of heaven" series by russell kirkpatrick for my birthday (across the face of the world) i loved this series as much as i loved the belgariad, so its one of my favourites. being a geographer, kirkpatrick is brilliant at setting a scene for a reader, letting them understand where exactly they are in the story. one of my best reads this year. definitly worth looking at.

Just an update, I've finished the second book, and, well, its not as good as the first, actually it is quite poor and its easy to see reflections of other great stories in the plot, namely LOTR (thats probably why i thought it was so good)
