Scifi and Fantasy Forum: Books and Book Reviews: Eragon
EragonWe have moved to new forum software and posting here is closed!
Hey guys, I just finished reading Eragon and I thought it was stale and lame (sorry, Paolini)Everything seems bothered from every corner of the media, from LOTR to heck Beowulf and others. For example, I think Paolini is horribly arrogant as evidenced by his website. He strives for a "Beowulf" like transition, yet I think it borders on plagarism. Take for example, Hrothgar king of the dwarves. Sound familiar? If you took a british lit class I'm sure it sounds familair.
No, it doesn't sound familiar to me. I take Survey of British Literature next year, so I'll get back to you after that. And I still haven't read the book yet, so after I do I will get back to you.
I read the book, and I really liked it. As for the plagiarism thing, I can't really say because, as much as I want to, I've never read Lord of the Rings. He graduate school, what, 3 years early I think, and he wrote and got a book published before the age of nineteen, that's something most authors can't say, even J.K. Rowling, of course he's going to be a little arrogant. Wouldn't you be?
I think he is a little arrogant, but I know plenty of people who are more arrogant and who have accomplished much less. Yeah, there's plagiarism. Not just on Beowulf and Lord of the Rings. The biggest plagiarism is on Star Wars. I won't say much, but just think about how the synopsis for Eragon sounds, and how the synopsis for Star Wars sounds. There are quite a few similarities.
Can't blame the kid if he's arrogant. He's still young. As for the book,I really enjoyed it.
