Can anyone help?! I'm trying to recall the name and author of a short story I read a number of years ago in which a young man sets out to travel as far as possible in one direction from his home neighbourhood. His friends think he is crazy for wanting to go beyond his own little world. He buys a ticket and gets on a train, changing nodes to get to the largest and fastest transportation. He then stays on this train and circumnavigates the world. Of course he doesn't know this until he gets off the train and finds he is back where he started...

Any help would be great!

Thanks

The story is by J. G. Ballard, but the title is escaping me.
