Posted By: Bmat Jun 21, 2001 - 01:59 pm | | LOL!!!! Sorry about that Merlin!! You have all the charisma plus!!!
Posted By: MerleZ Jun 22, 2001 - 12:39 pm | | Actually, Corwin is much more interesting than Merlin. Merlin relies much more on magic and power than Corwin ever did, or could. Corwin had to make it on his guile, while Merlin has other little tricks to back him up. Honestly, I woulda chose "Corwin" as my nick, but that was in the Pathfinder days, and I figured everyone would think "Lt. Corwin" instead of Prince Corwin of Amber. LOL!
Posted By: Bmat Jun 22, 2001 - 01:20 pm | | How about that!! I remember thinking for some time that your nick was from Merlin the Sorcerer of King Arther legend. I wonder if one could infer that Merle was that Merlin- it could be possible to make an argument for that considering the time differential between Shadows. I'm almost finished reading "Trumps of Doom" and am struck by Merle's immaturity compared to the sophistication of Corwin. Of course Corwin was hundreds of years old so he would be more mature. I wonder if part of Merle's seeming lack of logic could also be due to his background as a recent inhabitant of Chaos. As you pointed out, Merle, Corwin was a stronger character because he had to use his own inner resources instead of relying on the help of magic as did Merlin.
Posted By: Lamasu Jul 28, 2001 - 12:30 pm | | I am a great Zelazny fan, especially the amber series. Does anyone else feels that the last book of the second series finishes with a really open ending. quite frustrating I find...
Posted By: MerleZ Jul 30, 2001 - 05:17 am | | Yes, quite so. That's why Zelazny wrote five short stories, trying to tie up the loose ends. He realized what he'd done.
Posted By: Lamasu Jul 30, 2001 - 05:31 am | | I didn't know that. Could you tell me where I can find these stories?
Posted By: Lamasu Aug 07, 2001 - 09:32 am | | I have a feeling these stories might be in a book called A Rhapsody in Amber. Could anyone confirm this? or is the name of the book simply misleading?
I've read the Amber series (well, up to Trumps of Doom). I much prefered Corwin to Merlin, mainly because of the style of writing. Corwin was a much more interesting character, and he was also a lot less cliched than Merlin. I'd love to read the other books so maybe I could learn to love Merlin too, but I can't find them anywhere.
Posted By: MerleZ Jun 26, 2002 - 12:09 pm | | You need to check for "The Great Book of Amber." It has all ten Amber books in it.
Posted By: Bmat Jun 26, 2002 - 12:17 pm | | I bought that, Merle, and it's true that I appreciated Merlin more having read them straight through. I agree with Lady of the Lake that Corwin is my favorite, which could be because I loved the Amber series from the start.
Posted By: Sindatur Jun 26, 2002 - 06:50 pm | | Merle, I'm smitten, Please email me a complete listing of the books chronicling your family history. Thanks Kcarpontier@hotmail.com I've never had the opportunity to know anything about your kin, other than what you've shown me. And since your name isn't Morn or Angus or Thomas, I figure your family chronicles must be pretty good.
Posted By: Sindatur Jun 26, 2002 - 06:57 pm | | Oh, and Merle, Corwin on B5 was a major stud muffin (much more so than Sheridan, Mr. G. or Zack). So, no reason to feel ashamed of that, besides you have the Z after the name so, it would be CorwinZ, not hard to figure out. No offense intended Merle, just had to be stated.
Posted By: MerleZ Jun 27, 2002 - 06:18 am | | Emailed you, my friend.
Posted By: RongFo Apr 07, 2003 - 12:06 pm | | Mmmm, Zelazny. To anyone who only knows the great Roger from his Amber series: read Lord of Light immediately. Move on to Roadmarks (for a lighter touch), This Immortal, Jack of Shadows, and if you enjoy your sf a little far out, Creatures of Light and Darkness. Zelazny certainly had his flaws, but he was the master of pacing, and always came up with fresh ideas.
http://zelazny.corrupt.net/book.php?book=rhapsody RE: rhapsody in amber this page says it has nothing to do with the amber series http://zelazny.corrupt.net/stories.html#amber this page shows 6 amber short stories, I do not believe they were ever printed together and they do not all (if any of them) appear after the 10th book Prince of Chaos if anyone knows ANYTHING about where to get any short stories the Zelazny wrote in the amber world, please post here

Posted By: Bmat Dec 23, 2004 - 08:38 am | | I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I read the first of the prequels and thought it was OK but not as deeply written as Zelazny's own writing. Have you read them? What did you think?

Posted By: MerleZ Jan 03, 2005 - 08:42 am | | Wow! I got your email. I didn't even know that there had been a prologue to Trumps of Doom. Very interesting, very interesting, indeed!
Posted By: BRfromPA Jan 03, 2005 - 06:23 pm | | I really really like RZ. Amber is wonderful. That little jem, Jack of Shadows, I've read several times. I have to find the one he did with Harlan Ellison. I've read so many great books from writers that are like the foundation of SF that they start to blend together. I Have No Mouth Yet I Must Scream was Harlan, no?
yeah the prologue was only in the first 500 books printed if I remember correctly . . oh and by the way, I do not approve of the new amber books, bad, very bad, stick with the classics
I am currently reading the Chronicles of Amber, and have to say I've been snagged by the plot! Zelazny's use of the English language is casual but masterful. I wholly recommend.
