Yes that's right folks, the Genuis Hugo award winning pen of Dan Simmons is back with his latest SciFi epic, Iliam.
I just perchased this new release this thursday just gone, after a spare of the moment decision to go into the local book store, I had already aquired 3 books to last me the month and wasn't really after another, but well you no yourselv's how enticing the wonders of the book shop can be eh?
So I went in and headed to the Scifi section straight away as usual just intending to see if there were anything new that I could try, author wise, when I spotted the prised new work by Dann Simmons taking pride of place in the new releases best selelrs section
So obviously even without reading the reviews or the back for a basic outline to the story it was a -bye immediately- from the get-go!!
ut after reading the reviews on the back by Peter F Hamilton and Asimov's, Booklist, and the New York Times, I new my all time favoured Scifi author was back, and with a classic to rival anything put down before him
The book, 'Ilium' takes the themes from Homer's mighty epic the LLIAD, and as the back of the book says, 'reviews them through the lens of Scifi. The end result is an astonishing achievment of pure storytelling and speculative fiction
The much favoured and well achieved scifi author Peter F Hamilton, says this of the enw book,
Dan Simmon's return to scifi genre is as IMPORTANT an event as his Scifi debut, the HUGO AWARD WINNING HYPERION.
LLIUM is an eloquent and exhilarating read, depicted with a frightening level of reality. It is too easy to think that the ancient Greek Gods and Heroes which he has brought to such sharp-edged life would genuinely behave like this. Simmons has produced a sharp-edged story that is both involving and intelligent, blending together a host of wonderous themes, ideas and legends into something that sets the standard for Scifi in the new century.
I personaly couldn't agree more, maybe I am biased to mcuh, who knows, but I think that even though a person is my favoured what-ever, I believe I can still get across an objective opinion of that assoctaed with who-ever, and so I say to all those who are genuinly science fiction fans, true scifi fans, that is simply A MUST.
The story is filled with wonder, characters of such deap personality, that does come across to the reader via his pen so well, that you end up simply getting lost in their depth.
It is truly a work of art, Dan Simmons has done it again, the master of modern day science fiction has returned to his rightfull place on it's throne.

Hmm, wading with great difficulty through the appalling grammar and spelling of this post [flamebait. Bmat]), I have to say that it sounds like a good read..

weird, I suppose I should just say , no comment eh ? but I guess its something in me because I can't lol.
99% of the time peoples posts in these forums are not delivered with the maticulous attention to detail that one would give say a Job application form or maybe a script to a publisher, my point being maejal, nobody realy cares about grammar and spelling wihin the forums, its just a place for friendly chatting and getting your views and opinions across to those like minded people.
Playing the game yourplaying will only get you alienated, nobody like a smart a** if you no what I mean.
Hyperion out
PS.. Hope I made at least 2 bad grammatical errors and spelling mistakes, [Flamebait. Bmat] ![]()

Haha...well said, I agree...I also am a huge fan of Dan Simmons, I would even go as far as to say that he is my favorite author, gaining that position in my heart from the Hyperion Cantos series (absolutely brilliant, I cant wait to see the movie). However, Im hesitant right now to shell out the $40 CDN to buy Ilium, so Im going to wait until the paperback comes out in summer 2005 (i think)
