Posted By: Odrade Nov 29, 2002 - 12:31 pm | | I just finished the first book in the Hyperion series. I admit, i had my doubts. I thought to myself, "it can't be that great". And guess what? i was wrong!!! Hyperion by Simmons is fantastic! i love the whole set up. And the detail was great. it was a great book. If you haven't read it, i don't want to give away the story line. I am glad no one gave away the story to me. But if you haven't read it, read it! i loved the characters and how each was presented. not the usual format for sci-fi. now i have to go out and get the rest. Thank you Hyperion for the suggestion ( iam talking about someone on this site)!

And the Hyperion Cantos books, Hyperion, The fall of Hyperion, Endymion and The Rise of Endymion, are like the best scifi works I have ever read. They stand in the prime spot on my bookshelf, for all to see. Over the course of all my reading history, all the books on my shelf, some 3000 books, I can honestly say that the Hyperion Cantos is my most treasured read. When you start to read about the Shrike more, and the AI's, not to mention when you eventually get to meet Nemes and her two fiends, you will grin from ear to ear as you turn the pages one after the other. Enjoy, I am happy you find it as thrilling as I did. Regards Hyperion

Though I do't think that the sequal has as much value interms of quality of writing. the plot continues, and is necassary for understanding the entire vision of the books, but the first book is much better written.

It was through Dann Simmons's Hyperion that I found myself getting into Keats and poetry, and that is another thing I owe him thanks for Hyperion out
