This movie looks awesome. I just watched the trailer at http://www.mirrormask.com, and it's everything I'd expect a modern fantasy movie to be, and more!

It's directed by Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman, and it's produced by the Jim Henson company. It won the Sundance award for best narrative. Most people who watched this movie at the Sundance Festival rated it 9/10 stars, and said that they liked it better than Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal.

And the most shocking thing of all is that they made a great fantasy movie on a $4 million budget. Watching the trailer you'd think that it was in the $50-60 million range or higher, because there's so much CG and it's well-done at that.

It gives me a lot of hope. If this movie could be made so well for such a small budget (relatively speaking), imagine what else we can expect over the next few years.

There's another trailer at http://www.ultimatedvd.org/en/Trailers/Details.aspx?Trailer_Id=2142859452 that I like better. Also, the one linked to above seems to be down right now.

I found out something I didn't know before: Neil Gaiman wrote the English adaptation for Princess Mononoke. If I ever had any doubt of his genius, I don't now.

Basically, the CEO of the Jim Henson company contacted Gaiman about writing a sequel to Labyrinth. Gaiman decided it would be better to do a tonal sequel than a plot sequel, so instead of following the same characters, it mostly follows the same mood. It looks a lot creepier though, and I don't think it has musical sequences.
