Well ... this film surprised me. Really good! I can actually see people watching it twenty years from now. It features a solid story, solid acting, solid directing, and ... standard photography. I loved it, although the death of Hector and the Fall of Troy are such tragic moments that it leaves me feeling a sense of emptiness about the viewing experience. True, Achilles was the greatest of all warriors -- by the myths. But, he was a villain. He fought for his own glory. At the end of "the Iliad" it is Hector's death that has meaning, NOT Achilles'. In fact the book ends "Such were the funeral rites of horse-taming Hector." The film nearly makes Achilles a hero, his actions justified. That is a scary take on a dark character. Anyway, otherwise a great film.

(P.S. I think Helen looks fantastic! I'd go to war for her! :))

I thought it was a very well made movie myself. I had very little problems with it and thoroughly enjoyed the entire film.

The only nitpicky problem I had with the film was also with Achillies' death, but not the way you look at it. He was supposed to die before the sacking of Troy, not after. When I was watching this in the theater, my sister agrees, I was worried that they weren't going to kill him at all. But they did, and all turned out O.K.

So, yeah, I was pleased with the film. It's definately one that I'm going to own, some time or another.

I was playing Risk at the same time I watched it, so I didn't pay as much attention as I would have liked to, but it seemed good. I like the fight where Paris got beat up and crawled back to Hector on his knees.

Not a bad movie I agree, not following the original story too closely but that did not cause much of a problem for me.

I really like Eric Bana in this movie, he was a very good Hector.

Yes. Orlando Bloom did O.K., did better in LOTR. Sean Bean did good as well but, again, was better in LOTR. Brad Pitt held his own, although I, as a guy, wasn't too overjoyed to see him nude.

Probably the high box office ratings.

It's the same reason why The DaVinci Code, after nearly 90 weeks on the bestseller list, hasn't come out on paper-back yet. It's a good seller.

Actually, for The DaVinci Code, it's because the publishers can make a BUNCH of money off of a best seller in hardcover, when there's nothing else out there that's cheaper for the same story. compare the percentages: they make approximately the same percentage of money from hardcovers and paperbacks, but hardcovers are more expensive to buy, so the publisher can make more money...

That's kind of what I meant. They don't switch to paperback because it sells so well that they make more money with hardcovers alone then paperbacks would afford.

Troy drove me insane; though i confess, it was worth the money i paid. i went with a friend- an ancient history teacher- it took her 20 minutes to walk out- completely demolished the myth. However the battles, the lure of brad pitt and orlando bloom was enough to convince me to stay. overall it was very entertaining and worth buying, but irritating that they ignored so many facts. The could have done better with the cinematography as well.

I'm something of a Greek buff myself, been so since I was little. They did GREATLY change the story-line, but I found it highly enjoyable.
