"A Christmas Carol" (Starring Alister Sim), the old black and white version, has long been my fav film (evers sense I was 10 years old.) It's always had a special place in my heart, and if that sounds corny then so be it. I love this film. I think it's a brilliant masterpiece. Of course it can't beat the story by Charles Dickens, but it stands on its own as, well, at the least as my very favorite movie of all time. I just ordered it on DVD (a 2004 release) and am eager to get it. I wonder if this film means anything special to other people here?

I struck out when I read A TAle of Two Cities. With the exception of the first and last chapters, which I loved, I hated it. Maybe I'll have better luck with something like A Christmas Charol.

Posted By: Magus Nov 13, 2004 - 06:58 am | | Let's see... Christams movies I always watch around the holidays... in no particular order... How The Grinch Stole Christamas (Animated and Live Action, but mostly animated) A Miracle on 34th St It's A Wonderful Life National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation A Christmas Story A Christams Charol (No version in particular, just whatever's on) My family also, once a year around Cristmas time, goes to Roosevelt Theater in Chicago and atches one of the plays there. Last year it was The Nutcracker Suite. The year before it was A Christmas Charol. I think we'll be doing A Christmas Charol again this year, but I'm not sure.
That's nice. There does seem to be a sense of culture in Christmas, despite all of the commercialism, doesn't there? It's always been my fav time of year. I love all the colors, snow, crazziness in the malls, and present-hunting for family and friends.

Posted By: Pat0214 Nov 15, 2004 - 01:18 pm | | Best Christmas Carol movies ever made are in my opinion (no particular order to this) Mickey's A Christmas Carol The Muppets Christmas Carol Scrooge (with Bill Murray) A Christmas Carol (with Patrick Steward) A Christmas Carol (with Albert Finney) Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol I've never seen the two earlier version in b&w, one with Reginald Owen and the other with Alistair Sim and also the version with George C. Scott. A Christmas Carol is my second favorite book by Dickens (my favorite is Nicholas Nickleby) but it is such a wonderful tale.
Posted By: Magus Nov 15, 2004 - 02:18 pm | | I also forgo other holiday cinema traditions in my household... A Charlie Brown Christmas It's Christmas Again, Charlie Brown The Santa Clause (I forget this last one's name. But it's the one with the candy canes that made people fly and the villain who was the preacher from Footloose.)
Posted By: Pat0214 Nov 15, 2004 - 02:34 pm | | Some good Christmas holliday movies, It's A Wondeful Life Miracle on 34th Street (specialy the 90's version) White Christmas How The Grinch Stole Christmas (both version) Scrooge (Bill Murray) A Christmas Carol (well you know the ones I like) The Santa Clause (specialy the first one) A Charlie Brown Christmas A Garfiel Christmas That's going to be that time very soon, bring out the hot chocolate and enjoy the movies everyone :-)
Posted By: Magus Nov 15, 2004 - 02:40 pm | | I didn't even bother seeing the sequel to The Santa Clause. I knew it would be a holiday letdown, as I'm sure it wasn't nearly as good as the first. But I agree with everything else on that list, although I prefer the origional version of Miracle on 34th Street, the '90's version is a good one. I don't remember seeing the Garfield Christmas episode. But I know that the Halloween one is awsome. Another holiday treat for my family is watching It's Christmas Charlie Brown, only the one that my brother played Lynus whe he was in second grade. It's hillarious and entertaining. We usually do it when his friends come over, the ones who were there with him in it. Ahhhhh... Good times...
