Posted By: Pat0214 Nov 04, 2004 - 08:48 am | | I am always surprise how much the original D&D movie was disliked by so many. I do not know why because I actualy enjoyed it, I even bought the dvd :-) I will grant you that it wasn't the most challenging of all movies ever made but it was more or less what I was expecting out of it. Swords, magic and dragons. Is it maybe because when you think about it, it does not have much in commons with the worlds and names one would find in the D&D game? I use to play it when I was in highschool and college a little. That was back in the early 80's. I was far from being an expert and sure did not know everything there was about the game, I was only a player.
Posted By: Magus Nov 04, 2004 - 12:55 pm | | I'm not the biggest D&D fanatic. I enjoy the game but I was raised on the teet of AD&D, Baldur's Gate and it's sequels. It wasn;t that it disasociated from its roots, despite being a crime in it's own right. I just thought it cliche and predictable, even worthy of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 given enough time. O.K., maybe not that far. But I just didn't like it at all. But I am glad you've had joy of it. But just because you buy a DVD doesn't meen it's good. I bought the DVD of Needful Things. It's the second or third greatest book I've ever read, and I had previously seen the movie. But, now that I'm not a child, and having read the book I find that it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen. So owning, and even buying a DVD, does not make it good. But, like I said, I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. I hope you enjoy the others as well.
Liked the actors in the first one......your out of luck, most of them are not returning..... "According to Dark Horizons, Justin Whalin [Jimmy Olsen of "Lois and Clark"], who played Ridley Freeborn in the first film, and no doubt jumped at the chance to reprise his role for the sequel - was dumped from bout number two. Most of the other original players - Marlon Wayans, Thora Birch and Jeremy Irons - are also not returning : but by choice. In fact, Bruce Payne is the only original cast member who is appearing In addition to Gaskell, Mark Dymond, Clemency Burton-Hill, Steven Edler and Roy Marsden star in the sequel, alongside original 'Damodar' Bruce Payne." from Moviehole

Yes I watch the show as well, all the eps.....even when it went down hill.....
They could have done so much with it- thats what bothered me- look at the Dragonlance novels, which were written from a d and d game. they have depth- this movie was only good for watching the pretty special effects. I will see the second movie, only to see if they can do a bit better this time- but if they were going to make more than one why not make it a trilogy of one story like Lord of the Rings!!! For such an amazing and popular game, you would have thought they'd have made more of an effort to get it up to scratch- sack the director, give us peter jackson!
Posted By: Pat0214 Mar 17, 2005 - 08:07 am | | Safire_slash, good idea on peter jackson, unfortunatly not all director's are at that level. If only Steven, Peter, George made movies, sure we would have some very good ones but not many :-)
true true, next plan- clone the directors
I think Gore Verbinski could do a D&D movie right. He's the guy that directed Pirates of the Caribbean.
i think they have officially ruined the chance for a decent dungeons and dragons movie for a while, ooooh Verbinski would be good, give us Johnny Depp!!
Posted By: Magus Mar 25, 2005 - 08:33 pm | | Johnny Depp would be good for almost anything. He's even good when the movie itself sucks, look at the poorly adapted movie Secret Window for proof of this.
