I saw it today at Best Buy when I went to get a Birthday Present for my Dad.

LOL

They do look a bit odd, I must say. I wonder how I'd like it.

I think comparing LOTR and DC, when all they share is their genre is a disservice to both. Viewed in context to its times, considering the state of the art in the (very) early 80's, DC is a remerkable achievement. Abandoning all previous fantasy concepts except its archetypal storyline (inescapable) Henson created an entire world from scratch. Yes the puppets are awkward at times, especially compared to CGI (in fact, the gelfling puppets are downright awful if you ask me) but this was long before CGI and overall, the production values, the intricate detailing of every facet of a brand new world, are phenomenal. If you compare the strict adherance to the aura of reality achieved by LOTR (which has the advantage of 3 movies to develop the storyline, 20 years of technology between them and a behemoth budget compared to the gnat-sized budget of DC), of course DC fails against it. It is a fantasy, a genre which requires the most suspension of disbelief and at its best, still loses me in the story and its world.

I don't agree with your guys' "bad puppet" take on the DC. I've always been impressed with the puppet work in it. However, there are times when the quality may slag. I've always been too engulfed in the story to care. I did notice a mistake when one of the Sketsis (if that's spelled right) starts flapping his mouth before he speaks. But most films grant us those little boo-boos. Even in the original "Star Wars" film, there is a scene where Vader is waving his hand about to the general without saying anything (obviously the body actor was talking, but no voice was added to it from the voice actor).

I dont understand how so many people can enjoy DC it is so boring!!!

I love fantasy, though I can not understand why DC is credited to be the marvel of its time.

Can someone please explain in-depth what draws them to the movie? besides the "amazing" soundtrack, or is everyone simply conforming to the overwhelming postive opinion of others?

IS the soundtrack any good? I haven't seen it, but I always love listening to soundtracks of movies, if they're done where they can stand alone and apart from the movie.

I think it's great, however, it is instrimental. If you like the LOTR mucic you would the DC, if not then not.

(I really love showing off my new skills! )

Oh, that's what I meant. I love orchestrations and symphonies if they're done well. Howard Shore is an Excellent composer, as is John Williams. The most sugnifigant orchestrations and instrumentalizations being composed today are movie scores.

What I love about the DC's music, as with SW's music, is the powerful, emotional drive behind the music. The DC soundtrack is more emotional, sensitive, and gentle overall. I love it. But those who might, say, prefer Bach to Beethoven might not. The DC's music is about heart, inspiration, and innocent as well as vulgar passions. lol. It sounds silly but I'm not a music expert and can't explain it in better terms. Lots of violin, flute, harp, drums ...
