I am desperately trying to remember the name of a movie from the 80s (?) I think it was called upland or overland or something like that. It had these troll things and the gateway to their world was like a manhole by a tree. One of the trolls came out into the real world and eventually befriended some teenagers. I know this is a bit vague but please can someone help?!?

I think I remember this one. I think I saw it a long long time ago in a house far far away. Did the troll have some kind of, literal, green thumb? And didn't the one kid cry so hard that he flooded a little magical garden place? It sounds familiar. But, as I said, I saw it only once a long time ago.

The one I'm thinking of was animated. I don't know if what I'm thinking of is what bigowl meens or if it's yours. What you just posted does look like a promising candidate, however.

you'd have to search through her movie bibliography, but i sort of remember she played a cop, the creatures came from underground in the local park (bit like the Wombles ) and thats about it really
