Daelish, what movie did you think you were going to go see? The comic book featured a guy, that when he got angry, got big and green tore things up. Ditto for the TV series. So in what aspect did the film differ so much, as to gain your scorn? I have seen the film, and admittedly far from great, it sure wasn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen.

Maybe even as good as the one with the bunch of genetically screwy kids living together in a house with the bald guy in the wheel chair. You said that like you didn't like the Hulk before hand, but you see, I DID like the Hulk before hand, back when I collected comics I bought the Hulk as a regular and I loved the TV show. What earned my scorn in this movie is that Ang Lee went completely overboard with backstory, sometimes drawing out what could have been told in 5 minutes for about 45 minutes. The movie is close to 3 hours long and the Hulk is in it for about 15 minutes total. The ending of the movie, while it made sense to me, would leave anyone who didn't know the COMIC story of the hulk completely clueless. Also, Ang tried to capture the comic book feel by filming a scene from several different angles and then putting them all on the screen at the same time with the comic box effect, which gave some people motion sickness by the way. I despised everything about this movie, and for me, in my OPINION, it is the worst I've ever seen.
The first movie HULK is how he became that green monsterman. It was Dad mad scientist who injected himself with animal genes to make himself invincible, but never worked until his son grew up and got radiation exposure. Decapitating a tank and flinging it away like a frisby is one of his joys to destroy boys toys. What amazes me is when he shrinks down to human form his pants shrinks down to normal size - must be elastic. What evil thing would challenge this giant X-MAN in the next sequel?

Since it is a Comic Book character, I really didn't have that much problem with that, but the movie didn't hold my interest. I think I made it through a little over half of the movie, and didn't bother watching the rest, since it just didn't excite me in the slightest. I think it was just too slow moving for my taste, I don't mind "slow moving" when it comes to character building, but this was just different for some reason.

Ang Lee's "The Hulk" is a truly great science fiction movie and also one that is greatly underrated and underappreciated. It is simply brimming with authentic science from the opening credits straight through to the end. All of the acting was great, the characters absolutely believable, the sets were wonderful, the settings, the laboratory, research equipment -all great, the dialog, the philosophical implications of his story line and of course the special effects and photography were all fantastic. I couldn't take in all of the scientific imagery and neat visual tricks on the first viewing - which were absolutely breathtaking right up to and including the final frames where you realize just how much the South American rainforest resembles a fungal colony when viewed from far above. This movie was intelligent and rich in ideas and visuals. It was also populated by characters that were interesting, mysterious, warm, sexy, troubled...Lets face it for the thinking person who is also a man of action this movie had everything. The Hulk character was absolutely believable and authentic looking and for anyone to say otherwise can only mean they were blinded by the opaque lens of preconceived notion and perhaps outdated expectation based on the TV series. I now believe that this movie wasn't received as as well as it deserved to be primarily because it is 'over the heads' of the average viewer who fail to truly grasp the nature of the conflict and drama portrayed so magnificently from multiple perspectives, almost simultaneously, from the molecular to the spiritual, from the nanometric to the expansive and intangable. You almost have to be a professional scientist or at least well versed in the biological sciences and also have in place at least something of the beginnings of the development of what is to be your own personal cosmological viewpoint in order to fully appreciate this wonderful movie. The father of the Hulk played by Nick Nolte had some of the most wonderful dialog and dramatic scenes. Consider: "...then die you will and be reborn a hero of the kind that walked the earth long before the pale religions of civilization infected humanities soul!". I am so sorry that Mr. Lee did not get the credit he truly deserves with his film "The Hulk". It must have been a great disappointment for him to have poured so much of himself into the making of such a film only to have it unfairly criticised by an intellectually naive movie going public. Criticize all you want, but if I were you I wouldn't go so far as to make Mr. Ang Lee angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry! -Vincent Vega

This is another movie I fell asleep in... in the middle of the day... on the weekend... and I hate sleeping. They just twisted it to something different then what it was to begin with. Mutant Poodles? I think not. Although some of the directing was rather clever and ingenuitive, it did little to add to the movie. In many cases it detracted from it.
So Magus, can you describe in more specific terms how this movie could have been made more to your liking? As the writer, producer and/or director what would you have done differently? Would it have been more like a giant TV episode & included some of the original actors? By the way, you should consider coming up with your own graphic rating scheme for movies. Instead of 1 - 4 roses or thumbs up/down you could depict two eyes closed for bad, one eye open & one shut for acceptable and two eyes open for good - or some variation thereof. If there's a way of importing a small image file into these message posts then...baadda boom baadda bing...you got your own signature rating system. Whatever...
I have mixed feelings on the Hulk personnally. The Hulk himself was very believable and I really enjoyed the scenes where he fought. Some of the lines could have been cut out and once I watched it once I really did not want to watch it again.

So what pissed you off about this movie is that he took time to flesh the charactes out and did in two and a half hour what it took Stan Lee ten years to do? Are you sure, Daelish, that you are cut out to be in an industry that requires creativity and talent to move the product?
