Scifi and Fantasy Forum: Movies: X2 (X-Men)
X2 (X-Men)We have moved to new forum software and posting here is closed!
Movie God has a whole swag of new pics from the superhero sequel including loads of new Hugh Jackman & Halle Berry shots. Also, a hi-res copy of the new US poster and various UK character one-sheets are now up at Superhero Hype.
X2: Guy Dyas, the Production Designer for the X-Men sequel talked wth X2 Movie about the challenges of set design on the sequel and was asked the big question - what happened to the Danger Room sets & Sentinel designs: "The designs for the Sentinels and the Danger Room have been carefully archived for the next film. The Sentinels were almost fully conceptualized and taken in 3D while the Danger Room was half built on a stage up in Vancouver. We tried to incoporate these things into X2, but there was just too much going on in the film already and had we added all of the scenes that we wanted to add, the film would have ended up being 4 hours long. So look out for the Danger Room sometime down the line...I kept some photos becuase it looked really impressive, even at that stage. I was sad to see that scene go because I collaborated with Adam Kubert, the genious comic book artist who draws Wolverine on a regular basis, on staging that scene inside of the set. Adam did some original boards for us and they clearly showed how amazing the whole scene was going to be. Wolverine is one of my favorite characters and this would have been his big moment, his time to kick ass on the big screen like no one else before".
Alan Cumming was just interviewed on the Jonathan Ross chat show in the UK last week and they showed a clip from the sequel of which we have a description. Thanks to 'Kailem'.
FilmJerk reports that Bryan Singer is within a couple days of completing the final cut of his "X-Men" sequel and "unless there is a drastic change before the week is up (and we doubt that happening), Singer's movie will clock in at 135 minutes (2 hours and 15 minutes), which is a full half hour longer than the first film".
X2: Producer Ralph Winter talked with XFan about various things. In regards to the Danger Room and missed out cameos - "We built part of it. We got it started, but ultimately even in a movie this size, in a big budget, you've got to make choices. We've got thirteen characters to service in the movie, with all of their character pieces and participation in the plot of the movie. It's a lot to juggle, and then the Danger Room would almost be another character in itself to introduce and pay off, and it just became too much. We had to make choices. We wanted Beast in the movie. We wanted Angel in the movie. We wanted a lot of stuff, and at some point you just have to say, "Wait a minute..." It's hard for all of us. It's hard for the director, especially, because he wants more, and I guess the only consolation is if we do well with this we get to come play again and tell another story and maybe introduce some new characters and have fun with that". Will there be a third film? "I think so. We haven't developed a story per se. Bryan has some ideas and we've talked about different things, but I think since we don't have a specific story in mind, we're so close now that I think we're just going to wait and see how {X2} performs, and if the audience responds then that will propel us forward to make a third one. We'll know soon".
X2: Recent press screenings have revealed that 'Gambit' and 'Beast' do cameo in some way in the sequel though not as originally planned or expected. Whilst a 'Dr. Hank McCoy' (aka. Beast) does appear visually in a TV interview talkshow segment in a bar scene, the 'Gambit' cameo in that scene looks to have been lost - instead keen viewers will see the name 'Remy LeBeaux' during a scene where Mystique searches Deathstrike's database. What is known is that the 'Gambit' visual cameo WAS filmed with actor James Bamford in the role - Bamford recently spoke about his work which we will hopefully see on the DVD: "I was given the part as Gambit by the director, basically for my look. I was working on the show as Wolverine's stunt double for rehearsals, and I was called in to be looked at for Gambit. I was on set the next day shooting the scene. I could not continue to double Wolverine on film because of a rehearsal injury. The scene that I was involved in as Gambit took only one day to shoot. It was a very small part, a cameo. There are no photos that I have from the film to give out, sorry. I did not do any screen test or audition, as I mentioned before, the director just looked at me and picked me. I have no contract for the next film, and I am sure that they will recast the character with a better known actor. If the next one shoots in Vancouver again, there is a good chance that I will work on it though, in some other capacity".
X3: Famke Janssen talked with The Toronto Sun and revealed a solid commitment to return in some capacity in a third "X-Men" flick - "I have a firm commitment to the X-Men movies. They are my priority. I've signed for a third. If, and when, it happens I'll arrange my schedule around it...I have no idea where the writers will go with Jean's story, but there are some great possibilities and ones I'd really like to explore". Meanwhile E! Online reports that ex-footballer Daniel Cudmore (Colossus) has also signed for the next film, however according to The Calgary Sun Director Bryan Singer isn't so sure - "I would definitely be involved in some capacity on a third X-Men film because I love the franchise and I love the cast, but I don't necessarily see myself having to direct it...I have purposely incorporated things into X2 and have ideas that would lend themselves to future pictures, but certain circumstances would have to be appropriated because I really want to do a few small pictures before I tackle another big, special-effects movie". Already a first weekend of May 2006 release has been targeted.
X2: Mystique's big hacking scene into Deathstrike's computer has a whole bunch of other character references it seems to not only the X-Men but other Marvel franchises. Yesterday we went through the list of names she pulled up on the screen during the movie whilst trying to find Magneto's location. Keen observer 'Will' though managed to find more references though on the other screen where she brings up the 'Cerebro' file - "Listed there are files for Project: Wideawake which is the Sentinel Program, a file on Omega Red - the Soviet's answer to Weapon X/Wolverine, the Muir Island mutant research facillity home of Proteus and his mother Moira, and lastly there is a file on Franklin Richards the son of Reed and Sue Richards of "The Fantastic Four" (which is also set up at Fox) who is acknowleged as one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe". Well, there's something to freeze frame when the DVD release hits.
X3: Production Designer Guy Dyas spoke with Countingdown about all sorts of design work required for the over five dozen sets used in "X2", and talk came up of the inevitable sequel which he says he hasn't heard anything official about as of yet. He did confirm some of the designs they did for "X2" but not used in the film will be saved for future films. Amongst those are the following, see if you can guess which ones will eventually see the light of day: "The Danger Room and the Danger Toom control room (where someone can monitor & supervise the training sessions), Beast and Beast's laboratory, Angel and Archangel, The interior of Alkali Lake's abandoned base which included some very intricate prison cells and a giant cylindrical room where a big mid-air fight sequence was going to happen between Toad and Nightcrawler, a land vehicle that was going to come out of the cargo area of the X-Jet, and a secret level in the Pentagon in Washington D.C.".
Well I must say it was definitely worth seeing, it was great.....
I wondering why Pyro, has a lighter.....untill he talks to Magneto.....I guess I should get into reading the comics....
X3: X2 executive Producer Tom DeSanto recently spoke with Cinescape about what other mutants we might see if a third film goes ahead: "Angel - The funny thing about Angel is that he was in several versions of the original X-Men script until very, very late in the game...He was also in quite a few drafts of X-Men 2 and it was ultimately decided that, again, story time was better spent developing other characters like Nightcrawler. So hopefully we'll see him in X-Men 3, but it ultimately comes down to serving the story. Beast - Beast is probably the number one contender who's made it the farthest along in X-Men and X-Men 2. Sentinels - For a while, the Sentinels were in some of the thought processes behind the second movie, but again, it's trying to keep it real and do it right. If they're done, I think they should be in all their 30-foot-tall glory and not walking around human size".
X2 (DVD): Superhero Hype has tentative details on the upcoming DVD to the sequel currently headed for a Sept/Oct release. Disc 1 features the film in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 surround sound, some on-set featurettes, along with two commentary tracks with Director Bryan Singer & the producers on one, Singer and various cast members on the other. Most interesting is eleven deleted scenes, though which of the following titles they will be is unsure right now: Professor Xavier and Cyclops return, Fight in the mall, Extended Wolverine/Deathstrike, Nightcrawler's Mark, Rogue/Bobby talk about Pyro, Mystique File Stealing Sequence, Jean and Storm scene in the X-Jet, Rogue helps kids during mansion raid, Extended Colossus/X-Kids Scene, Wolverine enters the 'Danger Room' door, Alternate Opening Sequence & Camp Scene, Professor X's Victory. On Disc 2 there's five featurettes ("Return of the Mutants", "Mutant Effects", "X2: The Cast", "Reflections", "Future of the X-Men" ), video of the press conference, an on-set making of special , an HBO: First Look special, 4 Trailers, 7 TV Spots, Art Gallery, Animatics and Easter Eggs. Early details of the international version however indicate the commentary and the featurettes may not be present on those discs.

X-Men Plans for Future
I like the film but I find it lacks some dialogue twists found in the tv series (cartoon) that aired a few years ago. In x1, the bad guys barely talk. Its a big hole, meaning characters are not defined enough through their speech. I can site examples from the cartoon.
Ahhhhh, missing characters.
I think it's one of the episodes when Mystique meets Rogue and tells her about her past.
It was the one where she met Nightcrawler and told him about his past.
I can't wait for the next movie. They're filming it in my neighbourhood again, so I'll have to be on the look-out.
O.K. Be sure to keep us informed.
Yeah, give me the address so I can parashute myself on the set and get a first look...
